New Line for new house. Do i have a choice

Just sold our house and bought a new build.

The line has been installed up to the house by open reach which i believe is private company from BT.

BT are offering to waive the installation fee of £125 as long as i tie into a 18 month contract for phone and BB.

CPWH my current provider are breaking their neck to keep and they say that THEY CAN ALSO CONNECT UP THE NEW HOUSE for £30???

I have read on a forum that BT have to connect up the line and then you can go anywhere for your service??

Can someone please advise what the rules are for a new home issue.

Many thanks

andrew.

If you let BT connect the line you can go anywhere for the service but only if you buy out the minimum 12 month contract you will be put on. Why not get it installed using the free BT offer with 18 months minimum contract?
  • Spoke to carphone warehouse and they said they can do it for £29.99 with their home movers dept??? have worked out that the BT offer without the connecion fee is about £60 - £80 dearer than CPWH.

And the very best of luck.

BT do the free install thing 18 month contract, have to make a number of
calls per month/quarter, no obligation to take BT broadband
TalKTalk (CPWH ?) £30 install 24 month contract, if full LLU then unable
to use any other broadband supplier, they must be offering you a
deal coz there web site states its £60 for a new line, not £30
Any service provider can arrange Openreach to install a line
Openreach is a BT Group business that has to treat all SP's equally
lots of SP's dont offer to arrange new line installs, those that do
insist you take some of their other services to, like sky only offer
telephony if you also buy the TV service,

No - eg. Post Office, Madasafish & Phone Co-op will install your phone line and not insist you take any of their other services.

TT will only connect a new line if you take their broadband, where as BT allow you to use a isp of your choice.

Did TT conveniently forget to mention the 24 month contract period  for new lines.

Worth checking with them to see specifically if they have capacity on the exchange serving your new address.

It might be worth trying Post Office Home Phone. They currently don't require a lengthy contract.
Got a cable line or no phone line at all?

    1. Check your line – you need to make sure you’ve definitely not got an active BT line.
    2. Install or activate a new line – depending on your situation, we may have to install a new phone line or activate an old one in order to provide you with broadband. The standard cost for a new line is £107.66, subject to survey. But don’t worry – if there’s an old line that’s still active, you might not have to pay
    3. Already got broadband – then we don’t need a MAC
    4. Easy to apply – just call 0800 092 0514
    5. Fast switching – once we’ve accepted your order, please allow at least 10 working days before your new phone line and broadband service will be active.

If you use Post Office to install a new line then they only make an exit charge of £15 if you leave during the first 6 months. Apart from that they let you leave no charge with 15 days notice.

Heinz, Iniltous, & ypaymore - thanks for you reply's and help.

Quentin - Chill out, with moving house and doing 101 things a once things may get a little mixed.

Had a mega offer from CPWH £30 connection fee, (instead of £60), 12 month contract (instead of 12) no min call requirements.

Will check out what the PO has to offer - and will update.
