Any suggestions for free hosting??

Options
I currently have a website for my hobby - Rover SD1 cars - which is hosted by Piczo. It is mostly photos (roversd1.tk). I pay for the name but the webspace is free.
Recently I have been having lots of trouble with Piczo and, from looking about on the net, am not sure if they are even still going!
Does anyone have any suggestions for other places to go for my webspace which are Free or Cheap - I have tried a couple but they don't like sites ending "tk" as it is not "dot com" but was cheaper for me to buy initially!

Many thanks for any suggestions

You could try Google Sites. Not sure how suited it is to your needs, but it is free. You can point your domain name at it as well.

I'm smiling because your links page has 2 for Rover and one for NASA..:rotfl:
  • 000webhosts were recommended to me when I first set up my website. I've looked and they are still free and offer a lot in their free package. (1500GB diskspace, 100GB/month transfer, email accounts etc). Might be perfect for you.

  • Thanks everyone for the advise, I will look into it.

The ISP people will charge me.

By the way, what is wrong with my links? Lol :D:D:D, someone has to have them! You did make me laugh.

p.s The wife thinks I am "out-there" anyway.

I use Vidahost for hosting. They are not free but very well priced. You can pay for the year or pay monthly.

There basic package is around £1.90 per month or £19.55 for the year.

    - 500Mb disk space
    - 5GB monthly bandwidth
    - 10 email accounts
    - 5 subdomains
    - 5 MySQL 5 databases
    - Free Domain Name

As you get your own free domain you can have anything you want.

They also have great Support Forums :)

  • Hi

    Everyone thanks for the advice.

I looked on their site, I do not mind paying a small premium, could you please explain what the technical stuff like bandwidth, Mysql etc actually means?

Is 500Mb a lot of space for pictures, as I will not put much text on my site?

At the moment the piczo site gives you more space as you get hits, so I have no idea how much space I use.

Is it easy to get my website redirected to someone else as Piczo have not answered any emails and contact details for the company can not be found.

The other concern is they are revenue led from advertising and is the company in trouble!

    Regards

    Mark.

If you email support @ vidahost.com (remove spaces) they will be able to tell you exactly what you need and will probably help you with the transfer. They are great guys and really helpful. You will get a reply back from either Dom or Seb :)
  • Hi
That was quick (The ink did not have time to dry):D:D

I will email them, and see what happens.

    Thanks again
