going crazy

Hi guys,
i am sat here in tears and dont know what to do. I phoned my doctor yesterday and today and i cant get in to see them until Tuesday. Over the past month my exzema has got to the point where i cant sleep i am literally scratching until i have blood pouring down my legs and arms in my sleep so am now too scared to go to sleep.
I have a variety of creams and am on antibiotics. i wear cotton gloves to bed but manage to pull them off in my sleep.
I dont know what to do as I really really need help. have seen the doctor last week and 2 weeks prior to that and they have changed my creams.
Any advise to stop the itching before i do some real damage.
TIA
Sal

    Try a warm bath,
have you tried Wrights Coal Tar soap I found that a big help for my children when they were little.

Are yu eating anything differently to normal.

Wrap something frozen in a teatowel, the coolness might help

Explain to your GP the severity of what you're having to put up with and ask for a referral to a dermatologist.

Putting something cold (not frozen) on the area helps. Try a cold 'hot' water bottle or an one of those blue frozen ice packs wrapped in a tea-towel.

Keep your bed cool with cotton sheets if poss. Layers of sheets and thin blankets/ coverings can be better than a polyester duvet that doesn't 'breathe' and can cause overheating. Try to cover yourself up with long loose cotton PJs.

    HTH. Good luck!

Hiya I suffered from really severe psoriasis when I went through a really stressed out time, I was covered from head to toe and it itched like mad, I found that E45 bath oil really helped stop the itching, I had a bath everynight before bad with a capfull in, soaked in the water for a while and then when I got out just dabbed myself dry gently, the oils stay on your skinand keep the skin more supple, stopping the itching.
Hope you get something sorted, I know exactly how you feel x

You poor thing - that's just horrendous! I'm not sure what your current regime is but no doubt your doc will have advised you on that. I've read here that half a cup of sodium bicarb in a warm bath can sooth the itch. I can't believe you're being left without being seen - if you're bleeding then there's a risk of infection. Are there any walk in clinics/treatment centres you could attend? I'm not sure what the options are where you live but it seems crazy that you should have to suffer like this.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I remember myself scratching my neck till blood like mad. Those who never suffered they cant understand that you simply cant control your arms. Some night I had to tie my hands :(
Ok, 1st thing now- cut your nail very very short to minimise the damage.
2nd- severe exzema can be a reason to visit A&E even. They might give you an injection (a combination of calming and hormones)
3rd- calming bath with special oils before bed might make it a little bit better.
Are you stressed right now? Why did it start?

Have you changed your washing powder or conditioner at all?

My eczema went mad when mum changed to bold.... and then lenor....

I have to have non-bio washing powder and comfort pure - otherwise I itch everywhere my clothes are.

Oh - and if you can, get cotton sheets and cotton or linen clothes - helps if it's natural fibres.

newlywed made a good point. There must be something that triggered it! Just think calmly and try to remember.
I feel so much with you, isuffered this condition since I was 13. Now I am 28 and for 5 years i have remission or able to control it more, but I remember the feeling of desperation when it seems like nothing helps..
How is the situation inn your family? Parents, husband.. are they supportive? Are you happy in you life? your job? unfortunately this problem depends so much on your emotional condition.

I really feel for you OP, my sister has it really severley too, she has to cut out dairy, have her own special washing powder, can't wear perfumes etc. it consumes her life.
She was born with it and has learnt to adapt but she does sleep with mittens on and has tons of steroid cream.
I really hope you can quickly pin point the trigger as it is not nice at all.
