Big Green Gathering

  • Wow - have been lurking a bit on MSE for a while and only recently started posting, this looks like a board I might need to spend some time on!

I have been to the BGG 3 times and it is fantastic IMO, loads of fun for all ages and levels of green-ness (though big-mac addicted SUV drivers might feel a bit challenged, but it's all good!), very friendly atmosphere, and lots of inspiration for living a more sustainable (and MSE-ish) life. I believe it was set up by the same person that organises the greenfields at Glastonbury. As the previous poster says there were some teething problems initially but now seems to run very smoothly.

Transport-wise, they run a bus down, think it's about £20 return from London, I did this last year. Also check out megatrain I think they are still doing £1 fares to the SW. Lastly it's too late for this year but there is an early booking discount of £20, or go for free as a trader or warden.

Love the idea of a get-together, too!

Oooo that looks really cool, just got to convince the OH that it'll be a good thing to go to :)

Anyone know what the age range is like? Im 20 and while I dont mind who I meet, I think the OH will be worried about being the 'odd man out' so to speak ;)

I'm 50, I hadn't thought about the age thing I must admit. It won't stop me from going, but I don't intend camping!

    are you honeymooning there Metherer?

you could ask for contributions to the honeymoon for wedding presents!!
I wonder if that would be a first?

I would really like to go, will have to see if we can work out holidays etc with work and find a B&B.

Good news. Planning consent has been granted for the Big Green Gathering subject to as-yet-unspecified restrictions. These are probably going to relate to noise and security to stop non-ticketed people sneaking in. I doubt you will see the Glastonbury ring of steel but it will probably be different to previous years.

We are hoping to go this year, but as we have a small baby we will only be goig on a day ticket.

Why only one day? http://www.bloomingbabies.com/ are doing nappies again this year, making it really easy for anyone with a baby.

As for what it's like, well it should really be called the Big Bourgeois Gathering. It's definitely one for children to enjoy themselves (and the parents just to mellow out, rather than actually doing/being green).

I think tix went out at the end of may too, I know a few people who have received them in the last two weeks.
