Looks like we are still banished to the MSE equivalent of the north pole ... here
One possible suggestion - for as long as the "banishment" lasts could be for frequent posters on this to add a bit to their signature to effect of "2010 DFW Living on £4,000 challenge is at.............."
That might help with those who dont realise that its now on the wrong Board and might otherwise end up mistakenly thinking the thread had finished.
<well - I couldnt think of a "tactful" way to phrase it I'm afraid....>0 -
I'm glad you got sorted out Moolooo.
Cw take care tomorrow its supposed to be -6.
I am not looking forward to walking to work either it will probably take at least an hour as I will have to take it steady.
OH had to go on a rescue mission with ds3 to get ds1 and dil from walsall because the water pump went on their car and the rac cover they thought they had is not enough to bring them back home:( It will be 3am or later before they get back. They had to go down south for a hospital appointment tomorrow but that wont happen now.
I sent them with a flask and tea/coffee fixings and some biscuits just in case of any delays.0 -
Hi all,
Had an absolutely rubbish day! I work for a national distribution company and due to the bad weather, our whole schedule has been delayed. Had 3 trailers arrive all day, and the 4pm trailer had not even turned up when I left at 8. So, then there is no space to put anything, the picking has to be stopped and gets even further behind. Wednesday will be fun, will be all of that PLUS picking 3 days worth of orders. Am so glad I am leaving in February.
On the good news front, I got my passport interview lined up now, so that is making progress. Am really pleasedWe must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
Our dustbin collection didn't happen today, and having checked the council website it appears that all collections are 'suspended as of Monday 21st December' as the snow, then rain, then snow/freeze has made the roads unsafe for the 30 ton wagons. They will now be emptied on our 'next scheduled day' which is next Monday
My bin is unusually full (after dejunking a room for elder DS this weekend), next doors is about half full (they have twins of almost 2, so will have at least as much again in the next week), and the bin from the house at the end of the drive is that full already that the lid won't happily close properly !!!
So I've called round the other two houses and let them know that (subject to their rubbish being securely placed in bin bags and the roads being passable) I'll take their rubbish to the tip on either Wed or Thur morning -- need to clear space in mine, and have a load of other stuff I need to take there anyway (closest cardboard recycling point). No point all three of us risking the run when it will all fit into my car (mine's also the best to use with it being a hatchback - the other two are saloons).
And I've also finally been pro-active about the entry road for our estate. It's lethal in weather like this - and a 'lovely' down-hill slide to the main road  I've often moaned (in the almost 8 years we've been here) that it doesn't get gritted, so this evening I've emailed our local councillor asking who I need to contact with regard to getting a 'grit bin' put in place so locals can treat it (I've even offered a piece of my front lawn which is useless for growing anything and accessible to all - as well as being right up close to the top of the slope). I got an email back within 10 mins to say he's forwarded my request to the person who would deal with it, so even if we have to struggle for the rest of this winter we'll hopefully have something in place by nextCheryl0 -
HI ALL, JUST POPPED OVER TO LOOK AT THE NEW THREAD, loads of people already signing up and getting organised. Im hoping to finalise my budget and post shortly. Thanks to Nyk for the help with the spread sheet- now working on this and playing-sorry practising for 2010. Started practising with my shopping yesterday. had £100 saving stamps-£25 voucher to spend in mr m. Me and dd had a trolley each (horrific i know) but 70 percent of the thins in the trolley are tinned/dryed ready for the new challenge. got loads of pasta bogof and tinned tuna etc ( 4 for £2.20), baking dry goods, ll milk et etc. so although we looked like we had gone mad it was all in a good cause.....(and vouchers had to be spent before the ned of this year. DD did manage to persuade me to get her a tub of ben and jerrys icecream cos it was christmas but i didnt mind much. Its her fave and i rarely buy it these days, she sat with a small amount in a bowl making it last as long as possible last nite which made me laugh....
today cleaning and wrapping , then haircut this afternoon. Will visit the library too as its almost next door to the hairdressers and see what takes my interest.

CW - Very thoughtful of you about the grit bin. The council used to leave bags of salt at the tops of the hills around here, but that does not happen anymore.
Was woken up at 4am - friend who starts work at 6am was stuck on the ice. Not a lot that I could do, so made him tea and a second breakfast whilst waiting for farmer to wake to give him a tow. Managed to get him out about half hour ago, now I have just had another call from him saying he is stuck going up the hill on the other side of the bridge . This does not bode well for me going to work in an hour. Do not know which way to go, or whether to go at all.
So, to everyone: make sure your car is prepared for winter!!! Here is a good article about what to keep in your car - I know we do not have nearly as bad winters as over the pond, but last time I got stuck in the snow I was soooo thankful for extra clothes etc that I keep in my car.
Hope everyone is staying safeWe must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
Blair - be careful if you do decide to go! Doesn't sound like a good idea to me...
I Seem to be the only person insane enough to have cycled in to work today. Funnily enough, I feel safer cycling in icy conditions than I do walking!
We booked our honeymoon last night! After Best Western decided they were no longer taking Clubcard vouchers at the hotel we had chosen for our wedding night (grr) we had lots of tokens... so have decided to use them at the YMCA and have booked 8 nights in North Yorkshire, by Robin Hoods Bay! We're very excited :-) Should be a lovely place to stay, though problaby still quite cold in March!Live on £11k in 20110 -

Do you mean YHA lynda?
We had a YHA honeymoon in Cornwall. Great, if basic, accomodation but always in an amazing location. Lovely cliff walls and drinks in the pubs.
