Ah, the magic that is Norton! The 'solution' that is much worse than the problem. Best re-install Windows XP from scratch, switch on the firewall in Windows XP SP2 & install AVG anti-virus.

The easy way to get files off your old PC would have been to take the hard disk out, set it to be a 'slave' device and install into you new PC. It would then appear as the D:\ drive and all your folders and files would be there!

Have you got an original Windows XP cd with a cd key? If so, all you need to do is stick in the cd , restart your pc, when it asks you to press a key to boot from cd, ,press a key, then tell it to install windows on the c: drive and off ya go!

Ya can search for a tutorial on google but its very easy. Once you've reinstalled windows I advise downloading https://www.free-av.com for antivirus (better than AVG arguably) and ZoneAlarm for a firewall ( I HATE zone alarm but if you're connected straight to the net it can be good...)

Then there ya go, a clean copy of xp, anti virus and firewall and it should run fast as hell :)

As for your old pc... you could buy an "Ethernet X-Over Cable" (crossover cable) which can go from your old pc to your new pc. Then you would set the computers to talk to each other (zone alarm Must be disabled for thsi to work).. and you could transfer files from old pc to new :)

If any of that doesnt make sense, either pm me or google some key words I said with tutorial :) If you live around Buckingham/Milton keynes I can happily come and help.
