 I foolishly removed window98 second edition from my pc last teusday and couldn't put it back on. Bought a new pc yesterday and also bought Norton security package. I have switched on today and between installing Norton and accepting windows updates it has been a nightmare.

I clicked yes to some updates which then restarted my pc and then I couldn't connect to the internet I had to do a system restore in order to connect again.

I am so confused by all of this techie stuff not being that knowledgeable about pc's I'm scared that I will mess up again and do some irrepairable damage grrrrrrrrrrrrr

maforduk the computer is working fine it's just the blinking updates and popper stopper or whatever that's causing the problems. I had this before with microsft updates they seem to stop some programs running.

I'm not quite sure what you mean?
Are you using Windows XP With the Service Pack 2?
"Right mouse Button My Computer and click on Properties"
In there should be the info.

Usualy with pop-up stoppers, you can keep a key pressed to bypass the pop-up stopper.

I think its ctrl key on most,...

Try this also, in Internet Explorer click tools, pop-up blocker, pop-up blocker settings, add this to the 'allowed sites'

Norton updates stopped my internet connection, I just had to remove them to get back on.

I also just bought the 2006 version yesterday and when I finished installing it a popup informed me that 'Norton 2006 may be out of date get update now'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can that be I'm totally confused plus the fact that this NEW pc is running slower than my OLD one!!!

I'm also gutted that I can't get anything back out of my old pc. The guy who built it for me said he would come and help me put windows 98 back on but didn't turn up.
Pc world said they could do it for £30 til they found out it wasn't a standard model, they then said there could be problems so the easiest and fastest solution was to get a new one. Not very money saving as the old one cost me £400 about 2 or 3 years ago and this one cost £320 without monitor as my existing one's ok.

I am used to working with Word and Excel but windows xp has works and the word processor documents don't seem as good as Word. I know i'm rambling and moaning but familiar things are comforting:o

PC World would say something like this as they don't care about your problem.....they just want your custom!

Windows is really easy to install. Plenty of guides online going through step 1 to step 999.

the guy turned up today and restored my pc hmmmmm afterI bought a new one:mad: . I now have two, the old one can't establish my internet connection nad the new one has a half installed Norton 2006 wihich can't be re installed or removed. It's remembering some of the installed files and protecting itself.

I can access all my old files on the old one but can't remove them as the old one has a floppy disk drive and the new one doesn't, the new one has a cd writer but the old one hasn't.

I don't think I should be let anywhere near a pc as I'm a danger to it and my good health:D :p  Have I confused/bored you all yet?
