Being an ex-bank manager, I am surprised by your opinion on this.
IME the banks have invested heavily in "Customer Retentions" departments with the sole aim of keeping customers. The reason for this is that it is usually more costly to capture a new customer than retain an existing one.
Indeed, threatening to move to another provider of financial products can often produce a better offer as an incentive to stay. It is how the free market economy works.0 -
Halifax have come out with 'existing customer' offers for dormant accounts - that were worth considering at the time - in the past but, IME, you can't get them to 'make you an offer' when you opt to close and it is easier to close the account wait at least 3 months and reapply as a new customer. But even then, there seems to be a relentless trend to cut credit limits available (which have never been particularly good) on re-acceptance.
On the beginning of summer I canceled my Halifax card and couple of weeks later applied for BOS card and was accepted within seconds for the same deal as Halifax offered. It's the same group, the emails look exactly the same and the card IS exactly the same one (including colour!).
So I don't think you have to wait 3 months, you can just apply for the BOS which is "theoreticaly" different product but practicaly exactly the same thing.0
