Interesting, and worth a bit more investigation, I think. The registration page

does indicate you do get live prices for the free registration, though it has an asterisk with no further qualifications I can see at the moment.
Maybe it's a limited subset, as the premium service offers level 2 and "unlimited" live prices, or maybe it doesn't automatically refresh?
The free access is limited and contended. This means that you will lose the feed after a certain length of time. During busy periods paying subscribers take priority.
ADVFN operates in a similar way although I've found in the day the free access there is almost useless - its often boots you out to the "time to upgrade your subscribtion" page within seconds.0
