Geeks use workarounds all the time.

You are not missing out on anything.
Maybe if you post some helpful posts rather than just ranting then your wish may be granted sooner rather than later
  • It might be a combination of posts and how long you been a member I seem to recall I had a post count of 30+ something but could post but the following day I could

Not in my industry. Some geeks have to formally prove everything :) I belong to that category.

I am posting on other things and if you don't think that my posts are helpful that is your perception. I, on the other hand, think my posts are well thought out, valid and generally helpful apart from the odd moan.

I also thought that highlighting the problems with what could be considered overzealous blocking of privileges to stop the spammers could maybe be taken as feedback for the site. I'm sure there is an optimum algorithm for granting privileges to stop the spammers and prevent alienating newbies.

I have inferred from your phrase 'maybe your wish may be granted sooner rather than later' that the powers above grant the rights to post links. I'm still hoping it's a random number between 1 and 100 as it seems fair in a random sort of way. Someone granting me the privilege to link if I am perceived to be helpful and not rant seems somehow goes against what I think internet forums are all about.

I'll let you know what post count links kick in if they do. If they are granted by a human rather than a computational decision I suspect you are right and my bringing it to the attention of everyone is delaying the human decision maker. *insert rolling smilie*

Post 108 and still no linking. Definitely overkill if it's the post count.

I think it must be length of time or controlled by a higher power.

Hoorah! Post 110 was my magic number but that may be coincidental as some other random combination of factors may have been at work

And I'm now thoroughly confused, because you don't seem to have 110 posts ATM. :rotfl:

Weird. I did have 110 when I posted that. I must have posted on a thread that was removed, I'm guessing your post count goes down.

Maybe it's just a long as you trigger the switch it doesn't matter if you go back down as I can still link
