Under the sink

Options
I have emptied under my sink and I want to work out a decent storage system because it turns messy very quickly. I have loads of pipes and cables under there as well as a waste disposal (already in when I bought)

Anyone got any bright ideas or am I going to have to go to lakeland this afternoon to buy their system.

I have found that ordinary white plastic storage boxes easier to store things in under the sink as you can pul them out when ever you want something. I think I only paid a couple of quid each for them in Wilkinsons. It is surprising sometimes what you find when you turn out the cupboard as I always find extra bits that I had forgotten that I had bought. So now I type a list of contents and stick on the inside of the door to remind myself whats in there

I had a shelf similar the the Lakeland one from Betterwear. It was good but as JackieO says Ice Cream type boxes work just as well particularly as by the sounds of it you won't have much useable height with the pipes.

Had a new kitchen 6mths ago which came with shelves in the under-sink cupboard. The shelf thing is now outside hardening off lettuce and tomatoes etc

My shelf broke under all the weight of the cleaning stuff I have there. I just put everything into an Addis box (one of the kid's old toy boxes). I also have one of those cleaning caddys (Tesco's sell them - less than £2 I think) that I keep at the other side. It does okay. It's cheaper than that shelf system from Lakelands. I think that would break in no time with all the stuff I have under my sink. :)

As someone already said, it's easy to pull a box out. And if something spills then it's easier to take the box out and clean it at the sink than it is to go down on your hands and knees to scrub underneath.

I've just had a sort out under my sink in the past couple of weeks, mine disappears into a corner so I have to make sure all my stuff is accessable easily. We've also got a very little room under our sink but I've been able to fit one of these units in the back corner but without the wheels on. I use it to store the spare bin bags, dustpan & brush, brass cleaner etc and things I don't use very much (like household ammonia and ant powder) it was a VERY close fit trying to get it in the cupboard (and I had to assemble it in the cupboard :o not an easy task ). I keep all the shoe cleaning stuff together in an old ice-cream tub and slip it into one of the baskets. Larger items sit in plastic storage containers grouped together. The only things that sit straight on the bottom of the cupboard is my box of soap powder (it won't fit under the sink stored any other way), fabric conditioner bottles (also too tall to store other ways), bottle of bleach and the spare washing up liquid. Even though I have only implimented this "system" about a month ago it's working great for me ;)

I was going to post a picture BUT OH hasn't installed all the software back on the computer yet (we've just bought a new one  ) so I can't even show you what I mean

  • Under my sink I have pasta, rice, cereals and popcorn!!!!

I have just one cupboard in my flat and that isn't enough really for food so use the one under the sink as well!! Cleaning stuff is in a plastic box on a shelf elsewhere in the flat!!

  • i had a shelf very similar to the one from lakeland, but it wouldn't fit properly under my sink due to the way the pipes run. i use small plastic baskets (39p i think from wilkinsons) and a cleaning carry thing i got prom tesco. the baskets have small things like sponges, cloths, rubber gloves, dusters, wipes etc in the, the cleaner carry thing has all the current bottles in. to the bottom side i have an old wine rack in there which stores all the spare bottles of cleaning stuff.

I pulled everything out from under the sink and was so surprised to see what I had put at the back when I moved in. It is just so awkward in there. I decided I needed to use the height so I went on the train to lakeland in Cardiff and bought the under sink thingie. I contorted myself into all sorts of positions to get it set up but I must say that it is a very good and adaptable device. I can only fit it front to back on the left side but it has given me three layers and I can see everything I have put on it and it holds a lot

I think I`ll get an open plastic box with a handle. I saw some in tesco the other day and that will do fine for the odds and sods like rubber gloves etc Anyway so far so good. My trouble with everything is that I forget what I`ve got half the time

I sorted our sink cupboard out a few weeks back and was astonished by the amount of cleaning products I had from Pre MSE:eek: Under the sink I generally keep washing up liquid, DW tablets, bleach, vingear solution, microfibre cloths hooked on peg on back of cupboard and a few dusters.

I keep a cleaning basket with handle for the cleaner: Micro cloths, polish, duster, vinegar solution and Flash.

In Utility room I keep washing liquid gel (huge 100 wash one from Makro), fabric conditioner (5 ltr), loo rolls, toilet cleaner and paper towels etc.
