We can't as our dog moults like crazy, hard enough keeping carpet hoovered, i would let her but hubbie doesn't want it, plus we only have one sofa and a chair so might be a bit crowded :D
  • Nope, they're dogs not people. Much as I love them, I've been in to too many houses which stink of dog - because they are allowed on the furniture which is impregnated with 'doggy' smells. If we want to cuddle them we sit on the floor. They are not allowed upstairs either. They don't get in my bed and I don't get in theirs!

Yep my pets have always been allowed on the sofa (my last dog actually picked his own "end" and would never sit on the other end! So we just used a fleece blaket to protect it.)

He used to sleep in my room with me too, tho he usually chose to sleep on his own blankets on the floor, he was allowed on my bed.

Our previous dog to that one, had been trained by her previous owners not to get on the furniture or go upstairs and never made any attempt to do either, as far as we were aware, but one day we came home very early and found her fast asleep on the dining room table!

Bet thats made some of you wonder what goes on when your out!

Dog on the sofa? erm ...........yes, because he sits bolt upright on the sofa arm so he can look out of the window :rotfl:

Dog on the armchair? erm.......yes, and he wriggles to make me budge up for him :rotfl:

Dog on the bed? erm.........yes, because we have a siesta together :rotfl:

But we do sleep separately at night because I don't want a dog sticking it's tongue in my ear at 3 in the morning :rotfl:
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • My two spend most of the day on the settees. We have fleecy throws to stop them scratching the leather.
They know I am boss because if I want to sit down I push them out of the way.
I love having a snooze on the settee with my two faithful companions.
They can come on the bed at bedtime and first thing in the morning but get thrown out when we sleep as we don't like friendly dog kisses at 3am !

  • I don't have a dog but do have cats and can't imagine not allowing them on the settees  They're part of the family, just the same as a dog is, and although I can see the point about animal hairs shedding etc that's what leather settees or a fleece throw is designed for!

I actually feel quite sad for all these pets that re not allowed to cuddle up on the settee with their owners :o
  • I'm wondering how many dog owners allow their dog to lick their faces after the said dog has had its mouth in very close proximity to another dogs back passage??

My parakeet isn't allowed on the sofa unless she's sitting on my knee and being good.

  • I only just got back to this thread but what a discussion. LOL.

So, we let the dog on the sofa but when I am busy then she has to go to her bed and if I do not want her on there I tell her to get down or get off and she does, so I do not mind but with permission. I do think it is lovely to have her on my lap to be honest. The kids love it too and usually sit side by side and have her sprawled across them.

However, we do not let her upstairs or in the kids toy room because there are lots of things dangerous for little mouths!! A lot of the toys have magnets in so we made the descision not to put a stairgate across so she can not get to the stairs or toy room/ It also helps that it is by the front door so she cannot do a runner or jump up at visitors if the door is open (because of course, everyone is coming to see her!!). The cats are allowed upstairs if we are not up there but not if we are as they climb on the kids and wake her. They have their own room too, the dog sleeps in the kitchen.

Likewise she is not allowed on the beds, I do not think I'd ever sleep if she was on the bed as she snores like a trooper. As does our old cat!!

Today, however, she has been a complete pain in the backside and has gone into destruct mode. Anything she can get she has been chewing, yesterday (amongst other things) she got a plant pot off the shelf off the greenhouse and chewed it and cut her tongue, she also ripped the carpet off the back door step. Today she got hold of: a toilet roll, a sponge, a rock, a bag containing a dog harness to go back to the pet shop (not any more!!), a box, a plastic lunch box, a watering can, a roller skate, my son's fire engine, my strawberry planter is empty... I also caught her trying to drag the kids school bag off the kitchen side. Would not mind so much but she has more chew toys than you can shake a stick at but she wants everything else but. I am not sure if it is my PMT making it seem worse than it is but everyone seems to be putting stuff down where the dog can get it, or she is getting bigger and we have to put everything higher up.

My husband also caught her with my Uggs!!!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

So today she got a time out to her bed with no-one making a fuss of her. She sulked over that. A lot. :rotfl:
