My phone contract had been up for renewal since the beginning of August so I decided to nip into the Tmobile store in Livingston to see what new deals they could offer me. When I went in the woman immediatley jumped on me (not quite literally). She asked me what I wanted etc.
I told her that I wanted something similar to my contract already (Flext35 no longer exists apparently) so I asked for about 600/700 minutes and loads of texts. This was all fine, she then showed me the phones that were apparently on the "combi tarrif".
I get bored with my phones quite quickly so I was looking for a gadgety one that would last me for a while. I spotted the sony erricson W995. Having read about this online and thinking it looked smart I told her I wanted that one. Immediatley she told me that "under no circumstances could I get that on a contract for under £50 a month"
I just looked at her in disbeleif as although its a new phone it wasn't worth £900 (18 months x £50) even with the call time tariff etc.
She kept then trying to flog me phones I didn't want. I told her that I would just phone Tmobile customer services and get the phone and the tarriff that I wanted. She told me that I couldn't do this instore and basically told me it was a waste of time as Tmobile wouldn't ir for less than £50.
I walked out and went into Carphone Warehouse for a nosey. Low and behold, same phone, 700 mins and unlimited texts for £30 p/m. Now I hate CW so didn't buy anything there.
I went home and phone Tmobile CS and explained what I wanted. 5 minutes later I was told me phone was reserved at the Livingston branch and my contract upgraded. Same price per month and I got my shiny new phone.
So from now on I'll stick to the customer services and stay away from the stores ... im assuming she needed to up her commision that day. I glad that ive learned to shop around in true mse fashion.
Sorry needed to vent. The woman annoyed me, but then I hate the "hard sell" technique.

I very rarely buy anything in store. I always buy online or reserve online and collect as you can get all the info you want on an item on-line and you don't get pushed into buying something you don't want or insurance. I have walked away from sales just as I am about to hand over money because they kept on about insurance. I can appericate the commission on insurance far outweighs the commision they make on items in shops such as Comet but surely salespeople would rather have small commission than no commission??0

I have to say that we have the reverse experience everytime! My o/h and me have been with T-Mobile for years now and always get the very best deals instore everytime (we always do our upgrades in the Brighton store when we are there). Still on flex 25 but paying £20 and got Sony C901. O/H on flex 20 but instead of upgrading phone she now gets this for £10 and she just buys a £30 phone.
Real Bargain!:TAlways get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
I went into an Orange store at the weekend, same sort of thing, assistant very pushy asking what sort of phone I am interested in. Until that is she got to the point in the script where they are supposed to work out which contract to sell you.
"What do you spend on calls each month, about what, £40, £50, £75?"
"No" I said, "I put about £10 on it maybe every other month".
She disappeared to chase another customer.0
