    Hi Gopes,

This can certainly be a frustrating situation to find yourself in.

As you'll appreciate our engineers are required to carry out work in accordance with the manufacturer's warranty guidelines and in instances where they see evidence of damage which invalidates this they are required to report this.

Delivering such bad news to customers isn't a nice thing to have to do but sometimes it's necessary. However, as you're not happy with the diagnosis of our repair centre you are free to seek a second opinion from either Sony Ericsson themselves or another authorised repairer.

Should you decide to do this please let me know what the outcome is as I am keen to make sure that you're able to get this sorted out and don't decide to leave us after such a long time.

Many thanks and look forward to hearing from you again shortly.

Climate change seems to be a common one for vodafone to use. They done the same with my daughter's Samsung Tocco, so not just sony ericsson.

This is the problem I have with "climate change" damage. They say it can be caused by taking it from a warm house to cold outside, but surely if that's the case then it's not fit for purpose? My daughter has been clumsy with phones in the past, but really loved her tocco. Always used the protective cover that came with it, even tho it made the phone look a bit ugly. Never used it in the rain. Never used it in the bathroom etc etc.

Tbh I think it's a big cop out by vodafone

  • You know it could just be that you have water damaged it and are refusing to take any kind of ownership of the problem.

I'm all for these forums sharing information and related stories but it really frustrates me this 'claim culture' that seems to be bred and the absolute lack of responsibility that individuals have, your adults - act like it, its no one elses fault other than your own and the phone manufacturers aren't making little secret water moisture timebombs to make you buy new handsets.

If you don't want your phone to be deemed liquid damaged - then keep them away from liquid.

indeed adult here. What am i suposed to do? put it in a dry box and hopefully no moisture would get in it? I can do that, but my phone rings 100 times a day and if i put it in a box, i would not be able to answer in time.
Truth is, some particular phones are rubbish. I dont have a pink handbag to keep it on there safe. Pocket is a fear place for it and if thats not good, then it doesnt serve the purpose it was built for.

Lots of people have complained about water damage when they haven't exposed it to water, whilst some probably have used the phone in the rain. I do believe these water strips are over sensitive (sweat in pocket (normal use)) and when the phone breaks due to a fault unrelated to water damage they refuse to repair it.
It seems very unfair to not repair a phone unless water was the actual cause of damage.
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

I've had *counts* a lot of mobile phones over the years. I never use a case, they get a bit battered at times, and get used quite a lot.

I've had many different brands, Nokia, Ericsson, Sony Ericsson, Sharp, Samsung, Apple, HTC, yeah.. i've had loads, but not one has failed on me due to "water damage"..

what am I doing right with my phone, that somehow things are going wrong with others... I can't honestly think of much, because my phone does get a fair bit of abuse, and it still works...

'Water' Damage results from condensation - and whilst it might be unpalatable to think your're being accused of phone abuse, modern phones will always be problematic, especialy die to the nuber of semiconductors and the fact out climate is cold. Steamy bathrooms and kitches are obvious 'not' spots, but even then there are so many situations where the 'water' detector will change colour in many routine situations mean that even if the phone spent its life sealed in a condom, the air within the handset, if damp enough, will cause the paper to show dampness, and as this is a one-way process, act cumulatively - whitth the phone seemingly working fine.

Until it doesn't and then the sensor shows why.

There are no 'fit for purpose' arguments that can be used - unless you get an IP65 rated handset, only this will protect you from such a claim my a service station. You have to remember that with THAT amount of sophistication, you have to treat it like a computer, NOT a phone. The old handsets worked fine because they weren't pushing the technology envelope - they are now, and unless/until the manufacturers make them water resistant, this problem will only get worse.
