Checkout the carphone warehouse website to find a PAYG phone that meets your needs. Then visit your local carphone warehouse shop and buy it. Have bought three payg phones from there, each one supposedly tied to a particular network, but each of them turned out to be unlocked (sim free), and unbranded. Assistant told me most of the in-store payg phones are unlocked so they don't have to hold stock of each phone for each network.

Thanks - have to be sure it's unlocked though, as can't take the risk of it not working once I put the international SIM in
