Not panicking, its just plain annoying!!! Especially when you're getting the damned popup and its not actually updating!
I've seen mention of a registry hack that stops the popup, though I don't know the details I'm afraid.Stompa0 -
Yeah me too I'm considering doing it! Hate pop ups. In any other program it would be considered Adware!0

I have to say that I am really happy with Avira, much better than when I had AVG, but as a non-techie - when it doesn't update I worry because I wouldn't know if it was a virus or something that was stopping it updating.
Cynical as this might sound but the reason it has problems updating is because the company is really only interested in paying customers and provide it free to try and get more paying customers, hence the popup. I can bet the paying customers dont have many problems updating.0 -
I was only asking if other people had problems coz when something doesn't work on my computer I automatically think that it has gone t"ts up! lol glad there are more out there with the same prob !0

Get rid of the pop up.
Use Vista Ultimate version for Windows 7rc.

I believe that, if not using the secedit solution, in "Home" versions, the fix is only temporary. Avira routinely updates the avnotify.exe and resets the security and the pop-up reappears.0 -
^ disabled it about 6 months ago, not had a nag since.
Mind you it's not updated properly for 2-3 days now...0 -

With XP Home, the only time I've had it reappear was when there was a major update, possibly v8 to v9, anyway it only takes a minute to redo.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
As latest seems quite big I downloaded from here
http://www.avira.com/en/support/vdf_update.html
then ran the manual update step instead0
