New York City - help

Hi, i have booked flights to New York for me and my gf and I wanna...find a decent hotel for a decent price (ive looked at reviews of 1-2 star hotels and they are so bad)....get any tips from any uk peeps that have first hand experience and advice...where to shop, where to go, where to change currency(here or the states). i booked my flights and hotel as a package from https://www.expedia.co.uk and it seems much cheaper than to do it seperately.

for hotels rating, have a look at https://www.tripadvisor.com. there are lots of hotels in NYC, and also lots of horror story!!!

    Hi Kismet,
Last year I used the Comfort Inn on, I think 46th street - good rating on Tripadvisor and we liked it.
About 100 yards from Times Square, easy access to restaurants /shops /etc.

Nowhere decent in New York is what you'd call cheap!

    Enjoy the trip

thanks, i have already booked the flights. i went to expedia before hand and others. The package deals were really quite steep and i have found it cheaper booking the hotel seperately. However the ones i have found have had dismal scary reviews!! So i have increased the hotel budget. Thanks for the hotel link, will look into it! Any nyc advice?
  • Hi kismet, Me and my girlfriend stayed at the Pennsylvania hotel 401 7th Ave, New York, the position of the hotel was perfect, it was central right next to Macys etc. Rooms in the hotel where clean and well looked after. Price of the hotel was very reasonable also,im sure if you search around google you will be able to get some good prices. Have a great time. :)

Hi, went in December and stayed and Southgate Towers Suite Hotel. Good reviews on trip advisor. These large rooms come complete with kitchen and we used to bring back food from Macy's excellent food cellar in the basement.

Staff were very helpful as well at the hotel. May I recommend you look into New York Greeter if you want to see the sights via a local. We had Herb showing us around Greenwich, the financial area, Century 21 (bargain city) etc. Great

sorry I am new at this, Southgate Towers is on 7th Avenue, right around the corner from Macy's and 10 minute walk max to Time Square.

make sure you realise on trip advisor where the bad reviews come from.

Its mainly american citizens who give the worst reviews, as the majority expect the best standards.

Most compalints are to do with customer relations - something we in britian dont get to upset about.

If you can live with not being the centre of attention for your trip and not having the staff obey your every command, you should enjoy it!

i might go for the milford plaza - not sure.

I've also stayed in the Penn Hotel. Location was great, but have to disagree with David_Brent, it was probably one of the worst hotel's I've stayed in. The rooms were small and there was yellow stuff coming out of the taps. Also I found better hotels at better prices.

I've stayed at the Roger Williams Hotel, and loved it there. I booked via priceline. If you do decide to use priceline, make sure you look at https://www.biddingfortravel.com before you make any bids.
