but
everyone is going n about favours, chairs covers, sit down meals, sweetie tables, etc we can neither afford nor want (favours) any of that kind of stuff, but im feeling crap as everyone seems to go down that route, will our guests be expecting it??
so im feeling deflated at the whole thing even before i start, and thinking sod it an not bother,

If we can put a man on the moon...how come we cant put them all there?

    Hi!
Its your wedding, you have it the way you want it!!
We started off small and by being MSE have been able to add thing like favours, with the savings we have made. Budget still is 'small' at £3500 for everything! :D
All a wedding needs is you and your hubby to be, anything else is just 'extras'. Read some more and you will see quite a few people are keeping it small!
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:

You don't have to have favours. They can get left on the table or not even noticed if you don't provide them.
You don't have to have chair covers. You don't have to have a sit down meal, how about a bar-b or a hog roast?
You don't have to have a sweetie table.

We did not have a budget when we started planning but knew in our heads that we wanted a small intimate ceremony as we do not like being centre of attention.

In total it has cost us around 3grand and that includes sit down meal, evening disco with buffet, real flowers and 3 tier cake, favours and gifts for all those who have been involved. OH's highland wear worked out quite expensive as they are only on hire where as my dress i have forever. My dress cost £250, BM'S dresses £65 and highland wear was £109 per outfit!
:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

    DD 1994, DS 1996 AND DS 1997

Lost 3st 5lb with Slimming world so far!!

Am not having a sweetie table BTW! Only having chair covers cos its included in the package price and finally only did favours as bought the stuff in a sale and it cost £1 a head for 30! As we'd saved £500 on the venue by haggling thought we'd push the boat on on the favours LOL

    I'm not.

We're having a civil ceremony in an old Manor house, I'll be wearing a wedding dress and am having one bridesmaid (my sis) because she's my only sister and that's what sisters do, she won't actually have to do anything.
We're not having a sit down meal, favours and the invites aren't going to be matching the flowers which won't match the cake which won't match the napkins.
We're not having a disco, we're inviting around 40/50 guests and 10 of those will be children (not inc. babies) We're treating it as a big family party, we want to spend time with our families and a few selected friends.

Our invites aren't out (we get married in 81 days) I've not been planning this for the last 3 years.

This of course is how I want my perfect day to be - although if I'm being honest all I want is that bit of paper telling me I've now become Mrs H. I HOPE this is what every other bride is striving towards, and that it doesn't really matter how you do it, it's the fact it's how you want it.

I've been to some gorgeous weddings where no expense has been spared (or at least it looks like that) where everyone has had an amazing time, I just haven't got the time/patience to organise all that.

  • decided no favours as such
    no chair covers
    no sweetie table.

We're having a mad theme - going all medieval, so not even bridesmaids, maid of honour or best man. No speaches - Nowt.
All the ladies get to be a princess for the day especially me and all the uber tradtional stuff is missed out.

So in short - have what the hell you want :D, who said there were rules about these things :) When I first came on here I was like "What is a chair cover and why would I need one" I was in panic mode on all the things I didnt know, but for my wedding I knew what was important - chair covers dont make it in the top 50 ;)

If you dont want it, dont have it - your day after all :D
