Wage increase. What are you going to do?

Most of my jobs have paid minimum wage, I have never been entitled to housing benefit.:j0

OK. Maybe it's a bit easier to get it here because of the insane cost of renting.0

Basically the dregs of society benefit from being in dead end jobs with a rise whilst the vast majority of us face pay cuts etc and increased bills to fund it.
Brillant.
I'd be quite happy for my local mcdonalds staff to be a sky package down and not see prices go up:rolleyes:
lol, us maccies staff dont see the rise - starting wage there is already above NMW0 -
nothing because my bus fare alone went up more then £3 a week.
£4.10 for a return to the city centre and that also includes having to walk 35 mins.
I digress...0 -

People like you make me angry. I work at McDonalds, as well as going to uni. I choose to work so I don't have to take any money off my parents, who couldn't afford it anyway. Who do you think you are to criticise those who work at places like McDonalds, who are either just trying to fund themselves through an education, which in my situation, is necessary to do the career I have aimed at for years, or working a job to pay the bills. I have to put up with people talking to me like a piece of !! everyday because they think McDonald's staff are a lower form of human being. Your comments are both inaccurate and unfair, so think again before you post about something you seemingly know nothing about. My McDonalds wage barely covers my rent and bills, and my working hours mean any social life I once had is pretty much non-existant, so if working and paying my bills is deemed worthy of criticism from you, you need to think again about your preconceived ideas of an average McDonald's employee.0 -
And I forgot to say, that extra 7p payrise pays for my books for a year, and if the dregs of society benefit whilst people of your mindset suffer, quite frankly, I struggle to have any sympathy for you.0

And you of course dont take any student loans etc paid for by the taxpayer because your parents cant afford to support you!
What degree is it anyway? Aromatherapy?:rolleyes:0 -
It's not worth much but it IS a rise. This year will be my second without one but that's much better than having no job.
Just hope that the rise, however small doesn't end up lowering some people's tax credit payments and negating it completely.
Since when have NMW workers been the dregs of society anyway (I am not one of them but if I lost my job tomorrow I may have no choice)?0 -
That sounds a bit harsh! Surely you'd prefer what you call "dregs" (how on earth can they be dregs, they are working for living, not living on benefits (and quick note, I don't mean those looking for work, I mean people who CHOOSE not to work!
Well said Tarry. I worked at McDonalds while a student and found most of the staff were either students like me, or mums/dads trying to support their families. I would say far from being the dregs, these are people with some of the strongest work ethics as they will do a job that is pretty sucky and more than physically tiring because they are so determined to support themselves and their family.
Also when my brother and I were young my dad left his job as a well paid manager and became a bin man, so he could be there to look after my brother and I after school. I'm so proud of my dad, I can't imagine getting up every day at 5.30am and being out in the rain and snow in winter and he did that for his family. One Debt vs 100 Days Challenge - £2000.00COMPLETED :j0 -

No, I do have student loans and grants, but that's what they are there for, to ensure that students can afford to go to uni, get qualified in jobs which need degree level education, then pay back into the economy by working and, of course, paying back the loan. I don't need to justify why I take out a student loan to you, as you have the cheek to call me one of the 'dregs' of society.
Not that its any of your business, but its a BA in English Language and Linguistic Science, followed by a postgrad to be qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist. I'm currently doing, for example, modules in Old English, the Structure and Grammar of Modern Day English, Advanced Syntax and Advanced Phonetics and Phonological Structures. I also have 5 Alevels at grade A. And work at McDonalds. Any more unfounded insults to hurl, or are you all done?0
