I get shocking eczema on my hands and arms when I'm stressed. My skin blisters and bleeds quite badly and the irritation and soreness can keep me awake at night. I also have severe allergies to certan natural products, essentila oils etc and have to be very careful what I use.

I've been prescribed steroids in the past but they really don't help and just make my skin thinner which in turn leads to bleeding. I've also tried antihistamines when things are really bad which can help but again it's limited.

Loads of creams and lotions down the line, the only thing that really helps when I'm going through a very bad spell is using Oilatum bath Oil - £4.99 for a smaller bottle at Boots (not any of their other products - which seem to have no effect) - not in the bath, but a little just mixed 50/50 with water and then rubbed directly onto the area. I then just rub over with water and pat dry with a towel.

I use it every time the itching gets bad.

It seems to reduce itching for me immediately and the skin really calms down. It obviously won't work for everyone - one thing I've learned with eczema is that it's a hit and miss business in terms of what will work for any individual.

Anyway, this mether was recommended to me by a friend whose son had shocking patches all over his body and it really helped him too.

I've tried the oilatum junior, but again it didn't seem to work. Just this one product for me. I've gone from cracked bleeding hands and arms to literally hardly any marks in just a few days (it sounds like I'm making it up, but seriously I'm not).

Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."

I know this might not be very moneysaving in the short term, but today I am having a water softener fitted in the hope that it helps soothe the excema that both my boys suffer from. I'll let you know how we get on.

PS - In the long term I believe I will sav money by using less washing powder, dishwashing tablets, soaps, shampoos etc!! :T
