Look at The National Eczema Society. It has loads of help information etc. Used to be a member when my son was little.....you have my sympathies, it's a difffcult thing to deal with.

Thank you both, I had a quick look, lots of good info on there I shall pass on the link:)
have had great success with Salcura products for my eczema. I used a combination of the Intensive spray and Zeoderm cream to control it and I believe they now do trial sizes that will treat for a few days so you don't shell out lots of cash if it doesnt work for your grandaughter

Thank you, I havn't heard of these products before, where would I get them and are they natural?

They are natural and suitable for use on babies as they dont contain any steroids or harsh chemicals. You can buy them online here http://www.salcura.co.uk/ or in certain branches of Lloyds Pharmacy http://www.salcura.co.uk/lloyds-pharmacy-c132.html , Boots http://www.salcura.co.uk/boots-the-chemist-c131.html or other independent chemists. The links explain how to get the pharmacies to order it if its not in stock

They wouldn't be able to try coconut oil cos of my dils nut allergy which is a real shame cos I've heard good things too

Are you sure he would be allergic to coconut?... I have a nut allergy and it was always assumed I would be allergic to coconut too, but I'm not... I'm pretty sure its the same with many others too.

I too have suffered with eczema all my life... I echo what everyone else says about no soap, always use emollient bath wash or aqueous cream... I use ecover (or similar) washing powder and always put it on an extra rinse cycle at the end just to be sure.

I've recently found relief with Epaderm 3 in 1 cream, its very thick and oily but I put it on before bed and it does the job.

Thank you, my dil is very conscious of anything nut based or even possibly nut based, she wont even use Cocoa Butter products and always stays on the side of caution, I will mention it to her but I'm pretty sure it will be a no, however your suggestion of Epaderm is interesting and I will certainly put it on the list of great suggestions from everyone.:)

I used to suffer badly with Eczema in the crook of my arm, and behind my ears and knees. It would be red raw and bleeding, mainly down to itching really. My mum had taken me to the Dr and they had given all the usual creams etc, then she tried a homeopathic cream called Graphites. It worked straight away, and my eczema has never returned, so it was a definite success.

    HTH.

  • My friend and I both had really good results on our little ones with pure shea butter. Not the sort you in the shops, we ordered it from ebay. I think it might come from a nut though.............

What was also really good was a handful or two of porridge oats the leg of an old pair of tights. Tie the leg up and then hang under the tap when running a bath. Makes the bath lovely and soothing and helps with the itching.

    It's horrible!
  • Thank you all so much for the great replies, I shall be chatting to my dil later, I cant wait to tell her all the suggestions, thanks again:T

  • Vitamin E cream. My mate has severe eczema and she says it has worked wonders for her. I'd go to somewhere like Holland and Barrett first to make sure you get a good one.

I also found this article which mentions lots of non steroid treatments:
