Tax free bikes with the Cycle to Work scheme
Comments

I got a bike on this scheme, biked to work yesterday put it in "secure" bike she's that only staff have code for lock and locked it with bike lock, finished my shift and bike was gone! Door open and lock cut through! It was on hospital property and meant to be secure! What do I do now? I can't afford another, will it be replaced? Is hospital at fault as shed was clearly not secure? Can any one help please?
Thanks Nic0 -
Check to see if it is covered under your home insurance policy.
If it isn't, and you have no other insurance on it, then you are stuck with the payments I'm afraid.
Hospital is not at fault as you park at your own risk.
Anyone can open those push button locks, usually by observing someone, or even by simply pressing the clean buttons, it could even be a co-worker.
This unfortunately explains why 'bikes are chained to poles right by the entrance, more chance of disturbing someone cutting a lock than if they have a nice discreet covered shed to work in.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Unfortunately you still have to keep paying off the loan through the salary sacrifice whether you still have the bike or not.
The hospital are unlikely to be responsible for the theft unless they were negligent in some way, or unless they gave you an explicit promise that they would take responsibility for the bike (unlikely). Even a "secure" bike shed not going to be 100% theft proof - it's a bike shed, not Fort Knox.0 -
Obviously report the theft to the Police, with the frame number and you may be lucky and get it back.
Watch out on eBay and gumtree (you will have to go and see the 'bike to check the numbers though, if it is a mass produced 'bike there can be loads for sale that look like it, but if you fitted unique parts, there is a chance the thief is careless enough to leave them on)
Good Luck!I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
