    What i don't understand is why you never contacted the company to stop it

    an indemnity could have been done same day - and then the bank claim the money back from the company - (surely one registrations of this would have cancelled any future direct debits)

    did you ever contact BT to see why they were still charging you anyhow?

    Yes, I did. I cancelled the DD with both Natwest and BT. My husband rang BT up every time it happened and they apologised but made their excuses. We finally asked for our details to be removed from the system (didn't realise we could do this before we asked, and TBH I thought they would do this when I cancelled the DD) and it hasn't happened since.

    "an indemnity could have been done same day" that wasn't what my bank told me as you can see from my other posts.

    The DD was repeatedly set up with the same reference number, despite me cancelling it every time, and getting the money refunded. They did an indemnity claim in Janaury, February & March, but in every month, including April, it happened again, so I have no idea what else would have made it stop besides us removing our details.

    i suppose not every bank is the same - my bank give you the funds the same day
