OP - I think with paypal when you open an item not as described and state the item was missing from the package they would tell you you need a police crime number, I dont think the police will be interested but they should give you a crime reference number, alternatively you may be asked to return what you received.

I guess the other option is for the seller to refund you and claim with royal mail,

    Thanks for your reply
It is only one gram more that could be the stickers the post office put on.

What a horrible thing to do!
The seller did not post the item. You have the proof. The post office checked the weight the seller gave them. That weight was delivered plus a gram of stickers that were put on after the item was weighed. The item was therefore taken out before the item was posted. The packaging was cut to make it look as if it was stolen in transit which the person who posted will have seen, this is a clever scam but they forgot the weight is recorded. You need to contact the post office fraud department they are very keen on these cases. Do not return the packaging, do not communicate with this seller, save all pictures from the listing before they are removed, if they show the box as well - great. (They cant argue it is a different and lighter box). Contact Paypal direct (ask for a supervisor) by phone once you have made a fraud complaint to the post office. Open a thread on the Paypal message Board in eBay. Good luck!
