travelodge dont do afternoon tea, so no idea how you friends had one there - unless the cuppa and cake they assembled themselves in their room wasnt up to standard, in which case they only have themselves to blame

dont really understand the comment about not having enough posts. do you mean, youve taken the hump, just because a handful of people have replied to a fairly vague question you posed?

What is your real question? good places in windsor to have afternoon tea, or just recommendations for anywhere in the uk

tbh, if you are upset that the windsor tearoom is across the road from the castle, then i doubt you will be impressed with anywhere, that the kind users of this site, have suggested, thus far. Does the fact you have to walk 100yds across the road, mean the tea will taste foul, and cakes not be up to scratch?

  • Pennyhill Park hotel at Bagshot, Surrey do a great selection of afternoon teas. Its not cheap but nice old fashioned style interior (wood pannelling, pianist etc) in the Ascot bar where you take tea

If you are feeling flush then stay there as well buit as I say its not cheap

Oooooh each year my company takes all of us (plus OHs) to Pennyhill Park for a weekend. Amaaazzzzing spa. :D

When I arrived I wanted to get the valet to park my Astra with all the supercars lol. But I resisted that urge. ;)

I've had afternoon tea at the Ritz and it really is nice. Yes it's a lot of money for a few sarnies and cakes, but it's the whole setting and experience that you're paying for. My tip - the sarnies are nice but they're still just sliced bread with ham or cheese or whatever. It's the cakes that really make it so don't eat too many sandwiches at the start - leave some room. :)
