    How many startup programs has she got? Forget spybot, use superantispyware and malwarebytes. When you say slow loading pages do you mean webpages or programs?

    Hi, thanks for reply, it,s an Acer, same as mine Aspire, it,s about 4-5 years old. Its slow loading progams, like IE, contol panel,etc. Once online it,s ok, web pages ok.Cannot even find if windows Firewall is on;It keeps refering to error, then gobbledegook.In security, it should just say on or off, shouldn,t it?mine does.She is trying now to get into IE to retrieve my e-mail, ages.

    I use malwarebytes, i will get her to download it, I prefer it to Spybot, it,s a lot faster, thanks, I .m not sure how many start up programs she has, not loads I know that as I asked her what was in add/remove, far less than mine, it,s after start up is the problem, getting progams up;
  • It sounds like the laptop is running low on memory, which as other has mentioned can be caused by lots of programmes running on startup.

    Check the system tray in the bottom of the screen adn close any uneccesary ones are the laptop boots up - that may free up some more memory for your programmes to run a little quicker.

    Get her to download Superantispyware as well, what Antivirus is she using? Get her to download WinPatrol too as this is very good at controlling unwanted startup programs.

    If its AVG8 then its very heavy on resources I'd consider removing it and installing Avira or Avast. If you do do that remember the AVG removal tool to make sure its removed properly.
