how accurate are Which? reports - Miele siemens or LG?

I need to buy a washing machine as mine conked out at the weekend - 25 year old Zanussi so can't complain. I would like to buy a Miele - one of the cheap ones - and had one all set up with Dixons online 6 months ago for £507 including delivery and connection. when I rang up to arrange a date for delivery they said sorry we haven't got it any more end of story so I was annoyed but my machine was still plodding on at that point. Now it's broken the cheapest I can get it is about £620 from comet. but there is one function that I would really like that this model of Miele doesn't have which is delayed start ( the model is the prestige plus). when I was in comet I was looking at LG and siemens which were about £400 and both had delayed start but neither of these makes makes it into the top of the best buys list in which. Does LG have a good name for washers? I know siemens do but should I just go for the Miele as I was originally going to do? I could get 3% off with quidco but would prefer to go through the shop and he said £620 was the lowest he could go as he was price matching with the comet website.

  • Miele are very good machines, but also about the most expensive you can get. LG have also got quite a good name.

But if the delayed start is the only thing that's bothering you, why not buy a cheaper machine and invest a whole fiver in a timer switch - something along these lines, though they're widely available just about anywhere :

That would seem to make a lot more sense to me.
  • I have had issues with various household appliances over the years and for the last 4/5 years have purchased many of the Which best buys. I have been happy with all my purchases, most recent was the Miele washing machine Prestige Plus 6 which i bought off the net for under £600-can't find the link to who I bought from tho.

I do think the Which reviews are are not the very good for music/sound/video/computer items.

thanks for the replies. I was going to use a timer switch but when I mentioned it to our bosch dishwasher repairman he said they never recommond using them for larger appliances as they could overheat and start a fire so that put me off. Unfortunately my bosch dishwasher and cylinder vacuum cleaner were both which best buys when I bought them and I've not been impressed with either unfortunately.

    Hi

I actually don't put alot of faith into the which reviews as they don't take life expectancy into consideration, but obviously I would always only recommend Miele washing machines!

Please don't buy a Miele washing machine from an online supplier or a national retailer, its not what Miele are about. They give better buying terms to independent specialists as they know the costomer will get a better level of service. Have a look on Miele's website to find one local to you. Of course go in there armed with your research on prices but it shouldn't be too much of a problem to match whatever you have found online.

Good luck with your new Miele washing machine!
  • Personally I find Which to be a bit jack of all trades, master of none, so if you're looking for specialist advise, then there are generally more specialist publications available to inform your choice.

In your case I believe Miele are a decent make, so I'd say you can't go far wrong with one of those.

When Which first started publication I used to subscribe to it. However, on more than one occasion, they described and criticised something that I already owned and I did not recognise the points that they were adversely commenting upon. At other times they criticised points which were really, in no way affecting the performance. Nit-picking, in other words. I finally stopped my subscription when they started all the extra supplements and I was not prepared to pay the extra.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Miele are by far the best manufacturer of Washing Machines for the domestic market. Bar none.
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

I've bitten the bullet and bought a Miele - let's hope it's worth it!
  • love mine - cost me £900, but I've got a 10 year gurantee, but from what I've heard the machine will probably out live me!

Best thing is how quiet it is - even on full spin. Had an LG before - good, but no-where near the Miele.
