Shipping to an unconfirmed Paypal Address

Hi everyone,
I put a mobile phone for auction up on Ebay for a price of £65 on Buy It Now. I said in bold letters on the auction page that if paying buy Paypal, I would only ship to a confirmed address. The guy who bought the phone has an unconfirmed address and he is asking to pick it up so he can save postage. Does anyone have any advice? Shall I refund him via Paypal and relist? Or shall I just go ahead with it. I understand that if the card proved to be stolen then I would not have any redress via Paypal. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

If he picks up the phone in person, then you cannot prove to Paypal that you posted it, hense a .chargeback. - you lose
.
Part of the auction agreement is that it is posted to a confirmed address:D

What about the unconfirmed address bit? Would you still post it to him? If it was fraudulent would I be right in saying I would lose out? He may be fine, I am just not sure what to do.0 -
Post it by Special Delivery, or recorded at least. Then any problems will be sorted by the 'proof of posting'.
Please read the buyers feedback for peace of mind.

Hi
First of all mobile phones do attract scammers so be careful.
Now, Paypal require a tracking code to prove that the item has been sent. If the
buyers collects the item then there is no tracking code and so no proof of postage.
In which case the buyer can claim they have not received item and claim the money back from Paypal. This can and does happen. For buyer collection then use cash.
The buyer has unconfirmed address and wants to collect sounds dodgy to me, you could loose phone and money.0 -

He has sent me the money including postage. Shall I just email him back and say that I will be posting it out? If I post this item to an unconfirmed address will Paypal cover me if it turned out to be fraudulent? Or does the fact that I have a tracking code make things ok?0 -

No Paypal will NOT cover you, and no having a tracking code will NOT make it O.K.
Look I understand the desire to get your money, send the phone, and move on but this is what scammers rely on - the sellers "greed"
You put no unconfirmed address so you started out right, don't go wrong now.
If you do this, there's a higher chance than not that in a couple of weeks you'll be back here complaining that you were scammed. Yes it's a hassle to sort this out. What you have to decide if the hassle is worth more than £65 and listing fees.0 -

Thanks Jen,
I would like the money yes, but I posted on here to confirm my understanding of the paypal system. The whole thing doesn't seem right. I will send him the money back and relist again on Tuesday. It's a 5p listing day then! Is there anything I can do to get my fees for this first listing back? As the buyer did not follow my instructions.0 -
Would the buyer necessarily know he has an unconfirmed address though?
It is a message that is added to paypal receipts sent to sellers.
I have had lots like that and have sent the item without any problems, though
I relialize that leaves the seller vulnerable.
I prefer to look at feedback to judge whether a buyer is dodgy.
If feedback is good I would send it.0 -
Loads of people have unconfirmed addresses, it doesn't make them a scammer.
If you are comfortable with collection why not return the paypal payment and ask him to pay cash on collection? Saves a lot of hassle in the long run.
If you refuse the payment and refuse to ship and he isn't a scammer he will almost certainly neg you and raise a non performing seller complaints against you, so make sure you know exactly where your comfort level is with this before you make any decisions.

When the buyer logged in to paypal to pay it would have told him. I agree, though, that it's possible that the buyer didn't know that before they bid (did you explicitly describe what a paypal confirmed address is?). You mentioned initially that the buyer had asked to pick up. In that case, as they've already breached your T&C's, you could offer to let them pick it up if they're prepared to pay you in cash. The other option is to ask the buyer to confirm their address - how much they wriggle should give you an idea of their honesty.0
