When you boot from the XP installation CD, you will be shown the various partitions on the hard drive(s). You can simply delete the existing partitions and create new ones if you don't mind getting rid of everything that's on the disk at the moment. The installer will then prompt you to format the drives - you don't need to do this before you insert the CD. You can format the drives with either NTFS or FAT file systems. NTFS is generally preferable unless you have a particular reason for using FAT.
  • so will an option box appear asking to choose ntfs or fat im a novice as you can tell lol im just hoping its all straight forward
  • It is straightforward, provided you're not averse to using the keyboard. Try following this guide; when you get to step 5 (Choose an installation partition), you'll need to delete any partitions already there to make room for Windows XP. Having done that, your screen should look something like this, at which point you can proceed with the installation by selecting the 'unallocated space' and pressing the [Enter] key on your keyboard.
  • Thanks tangle thats a great guide
