Go for the AIMs Market if its a punt. Still good price swings here & high risk.

    Indeed.

AIM oil exploration and production is a good one for a punt.

You could make (or indeed, lose!) thousands.

I've bought into a few companies (only small stakes) who have commenced drilling for oil and gas. Then, when news comes through they either rocket or crash.

I've had one goodun, Gulf Keystone, which shot from my buy price of 36p to 78p (I sold and bought some more at 70p).

Two more are Empyrean Energy, currently drilling for gas in Texas, the last drilling rig blew up, so guess there must be gas there? Waiting for news.

And AMINEX. Only bought in a few days ago but drilling in all sorts of areas so has some potential.

HOWEVER - all such investment are HIGH RISK. I would never treat them as more than a punt.

I concentrate the majority of my portfolio on "recovery plays" - UMECO, Uniq, Workspace Group, and the rest into low to medium risk unit trusts.

Why would anyone 'punt' the entire £5000 onto a single stock? Doesnt make any sense at all. If I want to gamble, I'll go to the casino. If I want to invest, I'll diversify.

I agree - split your money over a number of companies

    I stick to

Medical - shire pharmacuticals is a good one. Deltec Medical group and Asterand pharmacuticals are also not performing too badly

Technology - Proactis a software company isnt doing bad at the mement. Cyan Holding is also getting better results

Energy and exploration - Renewable energy has had a few ups and downs but again its improving, Sirius exploration has gained since I invested after a tip on here ( cant remember who from but thanks) - My best performer over the last few weeks has to be Symphony enviromental technologies.

I only have around 10K invested but split it amoung quite a few companies including banks, recruitement, mining and the catogories mentioned above.
Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T
