travelodge complaints

My family stayed at a travelodge in Aberdeen on Saturday night as my daughters had a dancing championship on the Sunday we thought we would stay over rather than facing a long drive on the sunday.

I have stayed in many many travelodges throughout the UK in the past few years and have never really had a problem, I am normally staisfied for the price I pay and have neve felt the need to complain. This weekend was different.

We booked a family room (2 adults, 2 kids) but they hadnt put in any extra bedding and there was only used towels in the room, I saw this as an oversight and as we were going straight out to meet friends for dinner we mentioned it to the receptionist on the way out and she assured us it would be sorted when we got back. This was not the case and I had to go back to reception where the girl was obviously irritated that i was interrupting her saturday night TV, she marched away got the bedding and towels and duped them on the desk in front of me and returned to her seat and TV I stood for a few moments quite taken aback but decided it wasnt worth the hassle so I picked up the bedding and gave a sarcastic "thanks for your help"

The room was fine but the bathroom was full of black mould around the taps, and the toilet had a few stray hairs around it - it was really disgusting.

The next morning we left early to get the girls to their competition but the passenger side window of the car had been smashed and the car had been broken into and my sat nav had been taken from the glove box (i know it was stupid to leave it in there) The travelodge staff had been made aware of this earlier that morning but didnt think to mention it when we checked out. They were of no help whatsoever, and it was another guest at the hotel who provided us with a dustpan and brush to clean the broken glass. When the police arrived they informed us that it was a regular occurence at this travelodge.

I was really annoyed that the staff had not warned us and feel travelodge should have done more to protect vehicles on their property. I have emailed their customer complaints dept and i am awaiting a response from them.

has anyone had a similar complaint?? did you recieve any compensation?

    Hi,

Earlier this year I stayed at Covent Garden travelodge for 2 nights with OH and 8 yr old daughter.
We were on a floor full of childish girls on some sort of hen weekend. To cut a long story short, we got no sleep at all. I complained to reception who would not move us as they said they were full.

Anyway, on my return home, I wrote a letter to Travelodge about the very bad experience and then forgot about it, about a month later I received a phone call from them with an apology and an offer of full refund for both nights. I accepted and they sent me a cheque.

Well worth complaining, I am not a born complainer but will always complain if I do not receive the service I have paid for.
I am only trying to help
  • I would complain - I stopped at one in London - while it was spotless they had a problem with the water in the morning I was due to check out & there was no hot water at all in the building. I wrote a letter & had a phone call from the manager at the hotel with explanation & full refund. I only booked it in the sale they sometimes run but felt that they did not deliver a full service I paid for. It is the first time I've done anything like that. Had I not got any response I don't think I would have booked a travelodge again. (As it happens I'm stopping in one this weekend!)
  • I stayed in one last year, and like others have never had any problems, but this one was really grubby...mould in the bathroom, picture frames dangling from the walls, soot on the wall above the heater, dirty carpets, staff ignoring you and smoking outside the doors, i could go on. I wrote a letter of complaint, and all i got back was a letter apologising that i had obviously experienced a slip in their usual high standards...however looking at the tripadvisor reviews for that particular travelodge (which i didn't do when i booked!) seems to suggest that it really was normally that bad. I was given no offer of my money back, and was simply told that the head housekkeper would start doing spot checks to maintain standards :rotfl:
  • I stayed at one in Feb: this year, Hastings. It was truly disgusting and more like 'faulty towers' there.
The room was really, really dirty, urine smell in bathroom, dirty bath-loo-towels, bits and pieces under/around bed, broken lights..............OMG!
We told them as we went out for the dya our concerns and when we got back that night were told they'd dealt with 'our' problems.
Turned out they'd sprayed air freshner in the room!!!
I refused to stay in the room, they said they were fully booked but found us another one after a couple of hours, not much better.
Complained when we got back and within 3wks received a full refund...................ruined our stay though.
    LL
We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars........................

  • I'm wondering if anyone can give me a direct email to complain, i've tried so many times on there silly online form and still can't get through it keeps crashing me out.

Any help would be greatful :)

    thanks

You got exactly same reply as I did. Stayed last year at Dreghorn, Edinburgh...never ever again will I stay in a Travel lodge. Cheap but dirty...Anthea Turner could teach the housekeeping staff a thing or two.

I recieved a reply to my email, thank you for your comments they have been passed on to hotel staff blah blah blah....... in regards to my car damage I was told that they would not be offering any compensation as it says in their t&c's that cars are parked at owners risk - i have just checked on their website and I see no mention of this anywhere within the T&C's.

I have emailled them back and pointed this out to them, also that the police officer who attended pointed out to myself that there were no signs of warning displayed in the car park either. I have also asked that they reconsider their decision - worth a shot, what do you think???

I have assumed cars are always parked at the owners risk, sign or no sign. You have already said you shouldnt have left the sat nav in the car. Does your car insurance cover you?

They could have been more helpful in helping you clear up, but did the staff know whos car it was to be able to inform you when you checked out.

I dont see why the hotel should compensate for the break in.
