My son has saved up all his spending money, Birthday and Christmas money and is wanting to buy a net book (they use them at school.) I don't really know where to start and don't want to pick the wrong one as he has saved up for so long to buy one. I have been looking at the Samsung NC10........is this any good? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is a decent one (looking at £300 max)? Is there anything that I should be looking for when buying one?
Many thanks

How old is he ?? What does he want to do with it ??
important questions really.....he may want a netbook, but may be better off with a "proper" lappy in te longer term...........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Hi,
He's nine. We already have a computer that his older brother constantly "hogs", so with him being the youngest he always gets the raw deal (despite the fact that I intervene). He wants it mainly to surf the web and play games, any homework etc that he needs to do he can use the home pc.
Thanks0 -
Netbooks are fine for surfing, great for portability, okish for homework (I'm assuming word processing and spreadsheet work) but in the main, absolutely lousy for gaming. Neither the graphics nor the (normally Atom) processor are up to any sort of gaming performance. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

Given what you have said, we may have to think about a laptop instead, the problem is he has only got roughly £300. Do you know of any decent laptops that would be suitable for him in this price range?
Many thanks0 -
Yup
have a look at this.......

..and only £170add Office 2007 from software4students.co.uk (will need the school's name) 2-machine lisence for around £40-50 ish, and that should keep him going for quite some time. I got the Mini-Guns IBM Thinkpads from them at xmas...

Medion Akoya E5312 £248.24

Toshiba Satellite L300-20D £245
Would add another 1GB RAM module to the Toshiba for £10.
Toshiba Satellite L300-20D
Dell 1545 £298.99 That too would need an extra GB of RAM.0 -
