If you are worried about damage to friends car cant you add his car as a Temporary Additional Vehicle to your policy, then it has the same level of cover your car has and most companies will add this for as little as a day, there is a charge but for peace of mind it may be worth it!
Just done this, added my sons car to my insurance, the Pru charged me £5 for a day, well 36 hours actually from a minute after midnight one day until noon the next.0
