Have u tried Albir the town next to benidorm, i live there n its a lovely family friendly town with the bonus of having benidorm beach and entertainment a 20 min bus ride or 5 mins in taxi. There is also loads of bars and restaurants here and of course a beach. Shuttledirect have busses from the airport to your hotel or appartment and cost around £7.50 pp each way and are comfortable and roomy, and i have used them many times. Good luck.
Still about 50 miles from Alicante airport. Also the beach is not among the best if you like sand beaches.
Been there myself and there are several places in Spain I like better...
  • No but seen as its next to benidorm and they have a great beach but albir is still a fantastic town thats why i live there! They have a small child and its a very friendly place to visit. It might not be the best place in spain to visit in your opinion but its a dam sight better than some places in England. Good luck finding somewhere.

Salou is quite close to Reus airport which Ryanair flies into and there are buses if you don't want to get a taxi.

Salou is a 15 minute bus ride from Reus airport. unlike what another poster has said it is very much like blackpool but sunny, with lots of english pubs however the Cap Salou area just 5 minutes down the cost is a world of difference and whilst i thought salou itself was a sh!thole Cap Salou was pleasent enough.

From Salou you can get a train to Barcelona for €12.10 return and it takes about 1hr 20 minutes. Just up the coast from Salou is the town of Tarragona which is very nice too.

Its a strange IMO way of choosing a holiday destination. You may get a resort close to an airport that is expensive to fly into.
ie I often find Malaga is more expensive than Alicante to fly into, so any savings on the resort transfer are wiped out by the flight cost.

It's horses for courses mate! I do loads of budget travel like yourself, and I really check out distance and ease of travel to the destination from the airport. Funny but I never have any joy with cheapies to Alicante but find loads to Malalga. The train line in Malaga airport is excellent for a 2euro transfer to loads of resorts, as is the line from Barcelona airport to the resorts. But then, I don't like transfers and prefer public transport.

The sheer "buzz" of finding a cheapie is just as good as the break!

Likewise TerryW i can often find cheap flights to places like Oslo Torp but as soon as you realise there is a 2 hour and €20 euro bus trip just to get to Oslo itself it soon turns a cheap break into an expensive one.

This may depend on where you are flying from and when, and timing on booking. I have actually paid more in the past to fly to Allicante then Malaga !
