  • My parents live 5 min drive away, so I'm sure we'll cope. Maybe I'll even break my 20+ year habit of washing my hair every morning - more like I'll have to! I'm hoping mum will feed us for a couple of nights too.

We're thinking that we might sleep in my sons room, which is the small room but has a double bed, he's at his gf's quite a lot anyway. Might just be quicker and easier in the long run! Mum has offered for us to stay there, so that's also an option although we wouldn't do for the duration due to our cat being on her own. Would there be any problems with that?

i suspect if you were to move to mums that the work would be done a whole lot quicker, as the builders will not have to tidy up and clean each night and could just "down tools" each night ant start straight in the next morning......

With that much disruption the least the LL should offer is a couple of nights in a B&B. Putting the floor boards back down in the bedroom and then having to clean up enough to move the bed etc. back in sounds horrible. Not to mention your having to be up and bed removed in time for them to start. If your mum steps in then give her the B&B money for a thanks.
  • Ok I with my husband run a heating and plumbing company. The 90% of the work we do is for british Gas.

Plumbers do not fit boilers Gas Engineers do A plumber may up grade his qualifications.

Allways ask to see a Gas Safe Card. It is against the law not to carry one and for them to say they lost it or its back at the office is unacceptable and against the law.
On the back it will tell what that person has a licence to do i.e install gas boiler, fit gas fires. Just because you have a licence it dosen't mean you can in stall any appliance you have to sit an exam for every appliance.
if you are unsure call gas safe they will let you know if the person is qualified or not.

To do a straight boiler exchange will take less than a day one in one out.

If you have no other problems and are not having a system up date.

Also ask about public liabitlity insurance and can you see a copy of the certificate it should cover you for any damage up to 5 mill.

    I hope this helps.
  • By the way the same engineer may not be qualified to issue a land lords certificate.
It will say on the back of his card.
