..because if it goes t*ts-up during flashing you'll probably kill the mobo....do you really need to re-flash, or do you just need to find W7 drivers for stuff ??

Well you just need to go to the Acer website and download the correct BIOS updater for your system. It is highly unlikely to go wrong, just make sure it is connected to the power supply (so the battery doesn't run out), then run the installer and don't touch anything until it has definitely finished what it needs to do.

If acer do this utility, then use it....many manufacturers don't which makes it more hit'n'miss

I flashed my Dell 2 weeks ago, no problems, made sure the webcam was disconnected first lol

preferable to use q-flash in bios although mine would only let me use floppy which i havent got (others now let you use usb sticks). had to use that win-flash utility. Need to make sure you have a good connection, your pc is stable, and you turn off firewall (just incase it messes with the download process). Mine worked fine and took approx 5mins from opening the program. Very simple but if something does happen, ie power cut, bsod, etc then say goodbye to your motherboard
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!
  • Make sure that the bios is the correct one for your system board. Sometimes the same type of laptop can have different boards, particularly Acer. Also do follow the instructions to the letter.

Could I start right at the beginning and ask why you need to update the BIOS? Many BIOS updates are to fix some extremely abstruse problem that very few people would come across...

On the other hand, it may be to sort out a problem found with Windows 7...

I need to flash BIOS as it has stopped charging my battery, full stop ie: will not charge at all or recognise it so i can only use when plugged in and as i bought it mainly for its portability thats not much good!

I rang Acer and they seemed to know of this issue and advised me to send it in but don't want to as personal info on it and heard(read) many a story about how long things can take with Acer and their level of customer services.

    Thanks
