i am thinking of going with selftrade.co.uk - plus they have been recommended by robbie.

but do they charge an annual fee or inactivity fee ? i can only see they charge 12.50 per trade.

Hi dude using the search function would have brought you to this

Now I haven't read it to see if they've changed their mind, but.....
iii work fine for people dabbling in the odd trade, I have an ISA with them, works ok and the customer service is helpful and friendly anytime I have used it, which was quite a lot prior to opening.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

  • hi, well i registered with iii and am now waiting for some password to come through the post which might takes ages because of strikes.

Anyways, i wanted to ask all those who use iii.co.uk - When you are about to purchase a share, will they try to get you the best price or do you just pay the normal bid price.

will a window pop up, giving you price offered by the market makers and the NMS. Reason i ask, is because i heard you can do a dummy trade. so if for eg, thhere is a share with a 180p buying price but the MM offers it for 178p then you should be cautious. (if its a small amount of shares then its ok)

The normal bid price, assuming it's the inside bid, is the best price, that's how markets work.
Yes, if you enter a stock symbol you should get a bid and ask price in a popup window
I have no idea what a "dummy trade" would consist of, perhaps you could elaborate.
The only prices you will see on this type of broker is an initial guide price and the price they are willing to sell it to you at, or buy it from you, if you are selling. You are not in contact with the MM's, your broker is.
As a rough example, since I only use Limit orders with these types of broker.

Example: You want to buy BARC.L you enter the symbol and click verify, it will give you a guide price bid / ask, you enter the number of shares you want to buy and hit the dealing quote your broker (iii) will look at the MM's they deal with bids, and make you an offer, you accept or decline.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

  • Thanks, i 've recieved the passwords now and logged in.

But now, it's saying my account is not activated. When i click on "trading" it says "account is restricted for trading".

then i transferred some money into my account, which says should go through immediately. But its told me it will be around 6 working days!

 This is even more annoying because i have my eyes on a share which i want to buy first thing monday but wont be able to!
