you aren't stuck with Vista - I have used the Vista drivers for my laptop when installing Windows 7 without ANY issues at all. But I totally agree with the memoery issue. 1Gb is the minimum rquired & I woudl recommedn 2Gb or more (but then I am a heavy user with lots of simultaneous apps)

No, I was referring to XP. Clean install and 2GB RAM and XP will fly along. vista and 2 GB RAM not so quick. Drivers should not be a problem for your lappy.

    Another point to consider........

If OH isn't happy with vista, he may well not like W7. I would suggest going to a couple of compy shops and see if they've got a demo of W7 running on a display machine and have a play with it before making up your minds. W7 is closer to vista than XP.....

'They' at the computer shop don't know what they are taking about - as I posted above:
The HP website does offer drivers for the 530 (for Windows XP professional) as well as those for Vista.

What they really meant was , The drivers you have on your computer are for vista and they are too lazy to look for any drivers that are missing when XP is installed. Was the shop a PC, Dicsons variant by any chance?

Most hardware manufacturers already have specific Windows 7 drivers available. If they don't then the current Vista drivers can be installed in Compatibility Mode and should work as intended.
  • ta everyone for the help we understand it better now think well have to put windows 7 on it can 1 more question tho someone said windows 7 is not released until end of october does that mean if we had windows 7 put on say tomorrow well have to wait until the end of october to use the laptop.

that is a good move. but it will take another 6 months to make it stable version.
