Virgin or BT broad band?

Options
My virgin broad band is getting on my nerves, it keeps telling me that the ling is broke takes a few clicks and a lot of pationce to stay on line. We supposed to get up to 10MEg, but I doubt it very much. What reallky enoys me is that today I can`t even open my emails. I usualy spend half a day on the net,but you could half the time if thing were running as they should.
What I want to know if we swith to BT talk talk will this be better?
Can anyone compere the two and tell me which one is better? Please, please, Iam pulling my hair out as we speak.

I have been using Virgin sinece it took over NTL. No problems at all , although the download speed is lower because of our local exchange, BT would be no bettter. I have been thinking of changing to BT but the main think that puts me off is that there is a download limit , the same asmost ISP's. Ther is no limit at all with Virgin, I download constantly and never have any problems. I know someone who was downloading large volumes and BT cancelled their broadband. Would be interested in other views

If you currently are on Virgin Media (cable connection) then you will need a BT phone line in order to take ADSL broadband from any other supplier.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I use Virginmedia through a normal ADSL BT line, not cable. Also comes with Talk Talk free evening and weekend calls, great package.

In situations like this I wouldn't be so quick to assume it's the ISP that is the problem. It could just as easily be a fault on your line or some piece of your equipment that is developing a fault, in which case changing suppliers would make no difference to your current connection problems.

Another reason could be the package you are using. Is it a very cheap, basic one? If so, you could simply be experiencing traffic shaping during peak hours which these budget packages are prone to.

If you are using virgin cable you really shouldn't be having these sorts of problems. In general cable is far superior to ADSL.

Im about to move from BT. Ive had enough of their crap service. Ive been with them for years and have never gone anywhere near the 100gb limit they impose, yet last month (due to very heavy useage month) I received an email from them threatening to reduce my speed down to 1mb for 30 days(!!!) if I reached the 100gb limit (i was on 80gb at the time).

Its nice to hear that Virgin dont have that limit and that they actually do adsl lines now. Very useful that. Last time i checked with them they were only doing cable, which i cant get.

Watchout for Virgin call charges, they are expensive. 0845 numbers are 20 times the cost of BT on evenings and BT include them at weekends whereas Virgin charge you nearly 10p/min plus nearly 10p as a connection fee. In fact nearly all 08 numbers cost much more on Virgin than BT (except 080XX which are of course free).

Thankyou for that. I'll be sure and look into charges in more detail before deciding on who to move to.
