ive rang the CSA and asked generally and anonamously, they said Full time students generally dont pay CSA, although they seem to think because he is earning less than £100/week he would be normally be asked to pay a basic £5/week, however, because he has the child overnight this would be cancelled as £5.00 would go to heating costs etc while the child is at his home.
  • As they have shared care, the cost will be nil, this does not matter whether the father earns £50.000 or £1.000 per year as the casre of the child is considered as shared care.

If at anytime this changes then you should discuss the matter with the csa, they will let you know straight away whether you have a claim or not, the father will not be at university forever.

It doesn't work like that Joanne - if it is 50/50 shared care then there is a further reduction but it does not wipe it out altogether I'm afraid.
  • Kelloggs36 you are right from what I have looked at there should be £5 per week as states in CSA calc check out the CSA website and you can calculate with exact income of the father. I am guessing 6 hours will be approx £35 per week and £5 flat rate .......................................
The amount to be paid is: £5

Non-resident parents who pay the flat rate of £5 because they receive a benefit, pension or allowance will pay no maintenance if they share the care of a qualifying child for a minimum of 52 nights a year.
Non-resident parents who pay the flat rate because they have net income of £100 or less have no further reduction because of shared care and they continue to pay £5. An exception to this rule is if a non-resident parent is liable for maintenance to more than one parent with care but does not share the care of all the qualifying children. If this is the case, the nonresident parent will still have to pay the share of the maintenance due to any parent with care with whom there are no shared care arrangements.

Hope this is more helpful ;-)

Except when he is a student though - it would be a nil assessment in these circumstances because they are a special category. they pay nothing UNLESS they earn over £100 per week.

The 18 Yo father is having his child roughly 50/50 with the mother. However he had his child from Wed to Wed the other week and when he rang the mother up to arrange taking her home, she said she had no formula and no money to buy any, therefore he bought formula milk for the mothers home. The father provides, clothes, toys, milk, nappies, bathing products etc for the childs care when the baby is with him, and then he had to provide it for the mothers home. I wonder where the child benefit and child tax credits that are claimed by the mother are going? surely the childs needs comes first and there shouldnt be any reason for not having milk available.
The mother has now asked him to have the baby Thur, Fri, Sat and return the baby on Sun, because the mothers mum and sister are going away and she doesnt want to have the baby on her own......
The father is wondering if the baby is more of an inconvenience for the mother (or is she suffering Post Natal Depression), as when she has a day off from college, or holiday the baby is still placed into nursery. May I add when the father had the child Wed - Wed the Mon, Tue, Wed where half term holiday and he prefered to spend time with his baby rather than put her into nursery.
