roughly how much CSA

The 18 yo mother has just split from the 18 yo father of her child, both mother and father of the child live with their parents. Mother of child is in College, claiming CB, IS, CTC and working 6 hours a week. Father of the child is in University and living off Student finance loans & grants, and works 6 hours on a Saturday at a retail outlet. How much CSA will the father have to pay to the mother of his child? the child stays with the father, Fri afternoon until Sunday evening.
Thanks in advance.

    Hi Nicky

I believe that full time student have a nil liability for child maintenance payments.

I'm sure that someone more knowledgeable will be along to confirm or correct that though :)

One of the websites I was looking at http://www.separateddads.co.uk/ChildSupportPayments.html

    says:
There are situations where you can have parental responsibility, but not have to pay maintenance for your children. However, this only occurs if you’re a full-time student, or aged 16-19 and in full-time advanced education, or if you’re living in a nursing home and receiving help to pay the fees.

But I was unable to find a definitive answer on the CSA's own website - might not have been looking in the right place though:o

You could always ring their helpline and ask: 0845 608 0022 (open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 5pm Saturday), you don't have to divulge details for a general query.

As a student he will be exempt from paying UNLESS he earns over £100 per week from his job - in which case the PWC would have to apply to have this taken into account.

And if he's doing retail work earning over £100 for 6 hours, can you tell me where he works please! Lol

Thanks for the replies so far, and hopefully for more. Any advice and info would be gratefully appreciated. The baby will live with its mother for the time being, but are their any other rights or laws etc with regards to parental responsibility as I am sure the father of the baby would like 50/50 care at least.

if it's 50/50 shared care, morally he shouldn't need to be paying maintenance as long as it's ammicable and he's pulling his weight.

It's never usually 50/50 as it causes issues for the child later.
Lots of back and forth etc - no main "home" and courts look at the child being in a main home.
The NRP will best get around 3 nights a week - and that won't be every week.
Maybe in the early years, but down the line it's unlikely and disruptive for all.

    sorry, but that's utter tosh.

thankfully the court system isn't of that opinion.

But is it likely that he can get 50/50 shared care? If the mother isnt co operative, is there anything he can do?
