Hi all
I need to connect a pc in a room about forty feet away from my O2 broadband box.
I believe I need an (lonnnggg) ethernet cable.
Can anyone tell me if there are any issues about using such a long cable? And where to get one? (other than tripping on it!)
I won't go into the reasons for the length/room issue - suffice to say that the pc can't be moved and nor can the wireless box!
I've tried a Edimax 802.11n Wireless USB Adapter but the signal strength is low and keeps cutting out. I'm probably doing something wrong with that but I can't figure it out.
Grateful for any advice.
Cheers all

The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.

either that, or some adapters that carry the signal over your mains wiring - can't think of the name of the beasties at the moment, but I have some at home and they work greatChris Elvin0

Your signal strength depends on local conditions, distance between 02 box and adaptor, obstacles such as walls steel girders etc or interference from another wireless broadband local to you. If possible check your settings of 02 box usually under advanced and see if you can change the operating channel normally between 00 and 09. goog luck0

What are homeplugs?
(I used to work in IT - I've been out for 10 years now and I feel like I've just stepped out of the jungle!)
Found this too.

Ethernet can be used up to 200M without any problems

For that length, a standard cat5 cable would be the cheapest and most stable option - as long as the cable can be routed easily. You should be able to get pre-made cables up to 30m from a decent computer store such as Scan - I would post a link, but it wont let me do it yet.0
