I would honestly consider moving banks if one brought out a good iPhone App. First Direct's internet banking is apparently "optimised" for mobile browsing, however what form this takes, I'm not sure. Some banks also use Monilink which does have a downloadable phone app - although this looks somewhat rudimentary.
As it stands, viewing BoS Online Banking and LTSB (although it does work) on an iPhone screen, isn't the most convenient and they aren't the most iPhone friendly sites to use.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
SMS is limited and is strictly a push-only technology, but it does have the advantege of universal support in mobile phones. Its also relativley easy for a bank to deploy.
As for as I know, mobile banking apps do little other that what you could do when logged into the same bank's internet banking website i.e. the client has to pull the information. I've not yet seen an app that waits in the baground to recieve messages from the bank triggered by account transactions. The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.0 -
I can't think of anything that I would want less than my phone vibrating every time a direct debit gets paid or an automated transfer wanders in to my bank account. Jeez .... the week after pay day my phone would be literally dancing across my desk at work!
I don't mind a text saying "you've gone overdrawn" when it's free and replaces a letter that previously cost £gazillions. But if I want to assess my account online banking is more than good enough.
Hopefully my banks will never make this option compulsory. It might make me do something stupid like accept £100 to switch to Abbey in order to avoid the texts!0 -

First Directs internet banking works spot on on mobiles (on Blackberrys at least so would imagine the iPhone already handles very well too)0

You're missing the point mate, as I stated above you set the parameters so in your case, you simply set it to only let you know if you're at overdraft level or whatever! I said that I have it set to values over £100 - thats for my own peace of mind, nothing else. As most my DD's come out at payday (16th) then I get one text at 08:00am and thats it, the only other texts I get are credits and debits over £100 - which to be fair I get when i'm at the ATM withdrawing it lol..... hardly a pain to me.
As for the iPhone app, security would stop an app running in the background and also all banks terms would need to be changed for instance, your bank is running in the background, you lose your phone - then what? Who is liable, you or the bank (when the phone theif transfers all your money to another account?)....
I think iPhone want to stick at what they do worst, make phones for talking cos they can;t make phones for app's! lol......:rotfl:
p.s. yea, I don't rate the iPhone and have a better one in my opinion (N97).....
