Hi,
I am one of the victims of OneTel incorrect billing for 08442XXx numbers. Thinking that it would cost 0.5p per minute, I made various calls abroad most lasting between 30 mins to an hour. Well, I received my bill recently and it was a shock!
I have been following threads about this and had made a call to OneTel 2 weeks ago to sort the issue out before the bill is created. Custmer service advisor told me that they were aware of the problem and it would be corrected before my bill is produced. Apparently, this is not the case.
I made succession calls to OneTel, sent e-mails, but nothing seems to be happening and I am sick and tired of explaining the situation again and again.
In his previous money tips e-mail, Martin said he is going to update us on this. I am sure many more people are in my case. Martin, please hurry up! By the way, if anyone managed to RESOLVE the problem with OneTel, I would love to hear from them. I refuse to pay that bill. It is outrageous.
Kind Regards,

And OneTel is now owner by CPW (TalkTalk) and TalkTalk is offering free BB and free 24/7 UK 01/02 calls and free calls to 28 countries and .......
I'm still glad I jumped ship last year.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Anyway, I hope my post attracts Martin's attention to this subject. I am too scared to use override providers these days as I have a habit of talking for a long time when I call abroad (friends and family live abroad).
Does anyone know if I will still be substantially overcharged if I use a 1p per min providers instead of 0.5p ones?
BTW, if anybody was able to get their bill corrected, please tell us your story.
Thanks and Regards,

Hi Nicky,
I hope this message is going to brighten your day! I too have been one of the unfortunate victims to suffer the incompetance of OneTel.
I have made a number of calls abroad was overcharged by a factor of 100. The so called customer care team and one of their supervisers tried to say it was another company who were charging them this money and that it was a premium rate number.
I have made numerous callls to ICSTIS, OTELLO, all they do is pass the buck and ssay they can do nothing at the mo.
I have a number for OneTells Managing Directors Team (02071811530) got all my money back!! Good Luck Nicky0 -
Thanks free2chews.
If we don't get any updates from Martin within a couple of days, I will call the number you have given. I hope this will help others too.0 -
HI Nicky,
I sent an email to Martin on the 16th April telling all the details about this no reply to date!
Keep me posted as to your progress on this, as they have to refund you, kick !!!!!!!

Recommendation to anyone with a BT residential landline but using a CPS provider to make their calls:
Always prefix any 084x or 087x* call with 1280 (so as to send the call out via BT at their guaranteed rates).
*The only exception should be for calls to 0870 numbers made between 6am and 6pm Monday to Friday when, if you also have an account with www.18185.co.uk, using the 18185 prefix instead will reduce the per minute rate to 4p.

I wrote to Onetel to complain and was phoned by them on Friday to say that they were aware of the problem and would be crediting the overcharge to my account - not happened so far though. Like Heinz I am now using 1280 to route these calls via BT to be on the safe side.0
