Question for Hero owners?
I just got my brand new Hero today and am playing about with it currently.
The first thing I checked was that it connected to the Internet and it did via Orange mobile broadband. I have noticed that it does not allow me to access quite a few sites though and have called Orange to disable 'safeguard' for me. This is supposed to protect me from dodgy sites but I am not too sure as I can't even get into ebay which must be one of the most popular sites out there. Anyway, I was told it might take a day for it to take effect so I'll have to see tommorrow.
I 'll be linking it to my wireless router later on tonight. I have set the router to filter MAC addresses so will need to get my Hero's address but when I look at settings/about phone/status the Wifi MAC address comes up as unavailable.
Has this happened for anyone else?

Mac address may be under the battery along with the IMEI and serial no, it is on some handsets.0

I have managed to find it now. It magically appeared after I tried to log in to my wireless network. Maybe it needed to attempt to find wireless networks before it is able to display it's MAC?
I am now in the process of testing the google map app and it seems to be very good. I have heard there are other GPS apps out there which are better. can someone explain in which way and are they free or not?0 -

Co-pilot can be bought for under 23 quid and offers turn by turn with voice prompt navigation, much like tom tom! It also won't eat up your mobile internet data allowance as it relies only on gps (you can download the maps before hand).
Google maps is very useful, but doesn't have the above features, and might be a bit tricky for some people who are driving and can't read maps at the same time. I use Google maps when my tom tom is being borrowed and it serves me well.Try to imagine nothing ever existed...0 -
Do I need to be concerned about how much data is used to download google maps? What is the worst case scenario if I used google maps every day for example? I will only occasionally be surfing on my phone and even then only when I am out and about so I was hoping my 500GB allowance from Orange would be enough.
I will not be using it for car navigation so apart from having to download maps do you reckon that Google maps will be adequate for taking on long walks?0 -

If it's just for walking that should be fine.Try to imagine nothing ever existed...0
