  • My Lab will eat just about anything he can catch... he likes to catch the flies, and stamp on the spiders.... but only the little ones though, a huge one came across the carpet last week some time and he got up and went onto his bed! Coward that he is :)

  • My kittens love flies! They were also very fond of 2 wasps they found on separate occasions and very annoyed with me when I rescued them! To my knowledge they have never found any spiders I'm sure they'd have fun with them if they did.

I had been suspicious for a while then my parents kittens were eating slugs and the other day I saw it happen, the slug was already dead _pale_ made me feel a bit sick!
  • Wasps are spicy though!
Feline princess, make sure there are no slug pellets in use if kitty likes slugs as they can poison a kitten easily (even some of the ones that are 'safe') especially if the slug has died of pellet poisoning (bran, egg shells, beer. copper tape will be safe but most other pellets will be dangerous). (sorry to nag if you're already careful but I though I better say something).

  • All cats will chase anything that moves.
We had an old cat with a peculiar habit.
She would catch bees and sit with her mouth closed for about a minute with a look of ecstasy on her face while the bee buzzed in her mouth.she'd then open her mouth and let the bee out.You could hear the bee buzzing inside her mouth.
We were amazed at how she never got stung.
The look on her face was a picture though.

My vet told me they should'nt eat slugs as they can cause lungworm.

  • never having had a cat before, it came as a suprise when I heard Hannah eating her first bluebottle :). We were 'staying over' at DH's flat last year (before I moved in) and it was early morning. I was dozing and I could hear a drowsy sort of buzzing coming from behind the curtain. I heard Hannah jump up onto the window sill, then all of a sudden there was this chewing sound, and no more buzz buzz :). Now her and Lucy chase and eat almost anything that moves.

My cats Roy and Moss both chase flies and spiders, but Moss seems to be the one that eats the most, he'll meow and chatter to them when they're out of reach as if to say come here and let me eat you.
  • Hi Nanokitten and Mrstittlemouse - thanks for the concern, fortunately the 'local' slugs don't get poisoned - the kittens live on a organic farm and no sort of slug poison is used. As they are outdoor kittens it's hard to stop them eating slugs if they want to but they have just been wormed (with a wormer that covers all types of worms) so fingers crossed they are ok!

I still can't understand why they would want to eat slugs!
