Limit new members to cut down on Spam

Why don't we limit new members to one post a day for their first week?
Then have a incremental increase until they are past 30 (unremoved) posts?
That way spammers wouldn't get the opportunity to cover the forum in their rot, and those that do can only do it once making it easy to remove instead of chasing around!
I think every member of the forum would agree!

what a silly idea
that would put people off from coming back..and lots of people would forget to ever come back!
what if someone happens across here, asks a question which is answered by lots of people, and then can't reply for a week!?
spamming is a thankfully pretty small concern on here, and is always reported and dealt with promptly.Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
Zincoxide don't think that would work, and as starlite says it would put people. Would put me off anyway!
Maybe if they post on a certain part of the site before posting in the freebie/offers section, say having to introduce themselves, it may filter out the spammers but then again.....0 -
Big thumbs down for me too.
If someone needs answers there and then, someone replies and the OP enquires about the answer or needs to give more detail how do you presume they do this?

im a newbie and i would hate it - it would have really put me off posting on here, think youd loose out on a lot of people,
i run a forum, understand the problem that spammers cause, but think a bit of moderation work is more worth than loosing out on good new members, if people do spam it would be very easy to limit what they do and delete there spam - it takes the admin seconds to prune posts that will have taken a spammer all day
if youve got repeat offenders - theres temp or permanent IP bans
or even putting new members on a moderation que (they have to be activated before they can use the forum)Yes Your Dukeiness0 -
could be 1 thread then built up that way they could get the answers and ask the ?'s they wantDiv 1 Play Off Winners 2007

The simalert forum deals with this by not allowing the posting of links in the first (say) 10 posts, but its not difficult to get round that by posting ten messages then spamming links...I think that the MSE way of reporting abuse is perfectly adequate to be honest

I've not seen spam to be a major problem on here. A quick abuse report and it soon disappears.
My problem with Newbies is when they post a question and are then never heard from again!
I've responded to two travel queries in the past week and neither have acknowledged the advice.
Can't think what can be done about this other than create a 'blacklist'!!!0
