  • I have cats that don't want to go outside....as you think that's so cruel should I force them out???

Anyway back to the topic...I would NEVER use flea collars because they don't work and can cause reactions. I use frontline for fleas. Plus you don't have to flea them as often as the packet says...I only do it if they start scratching which works out much cheaper too! ;)

Please dont put the flea collar on your cat, it may well kill him!!

Go to the vets and get a prescription from over the counter flea treatment.
What an extreme reaction! You give no explaination either, which is likely to scare the hell out of the OP, who isn't used to cats etc.

A Flea collar will NOT kill your cats.
  • Please read the thread properly and get some facts, you'll see that i have given an explanation. They HAVE been known to kill cats actually. It is fact.

  • For those that are interested in how dangerous these flea treatments are and helping to get them banned please google bob martin and organophosphates or visit the facebook group

I find that quite offensive - I live near a main road and as I said in my first post there are a lot of wild cats around here. I think it's safest for the cat that he stays in and we have a massive flat (on two floors) so he has got plenty of room to wander around.

Like someone else has said, we have taken him from a rescue centre and he's gone from being a stray to being extremely loved in his new home. I didn't ask anyone's opinion on him being an indoor or outdoor cat.

My original question was about fleas but never mind eh

Ted (RIP) was an indoor cat for his first 4 years or so (till we moved to a rural location), I still wormed & fleaed him - in case things come in on shoes or whatever, but not as much as you would for an outdoor cat. Instead of fleaing every 5 weeks I did it every three months. Wormers I think i did every 6 months.

He's a lot happier safe & loved in your flat than he is in a cage in a cattery;)

I'm assuming you haven't seen either of these:

I guess that will be down to people using their DOG products on cats then, despite it saying clearly

    http://www.bobmartin.co.uk/Fleas1.asp

Bob Martin Dog Spot must not be used on cats - it is extremely poisonous to cats.

Unfortunately even when used correctly it can lead to serious allergic reactions in both cats and dogs. They contain a chemical used in crop spraying called organophosphates which can cause breathing difficulties and severe seizures. I'm not trying to scare people, as has been mentioned before, im simply trying to make people aware of the issues surrounding these products and stop more animals suffering uneccesarily.

OP i hope you weren't overly alarmed by my earlier post. Also, sorry to have hijacked your thread a little!!

one of mum's cats become temporarily paralyzed after having frontline dabbed on her neck. she recovered after about an hour, but my mum was vry scared.

i gues all of these treatments have risks, but i have heard a fair bit about the Bob Martin products...

always ask your vet about the best approach anyway

No, cats have died after using the spot on for cats, and dogs have died using the one for dogs.

I totally agree with picklepick that they should be banned. I used to deal with their claims in one of my old jobs, and the letters people sent in used to make me upset.
