Santander Zero payment queries

Hello,

I have this new Santander Zero card. Just have a few questions regarding payment options.

a) I plan to set up a Direct Debit for minimum, then pay the full amount on top of the minimum amount manually. Will a manual payment reduce/stop the direct debit, or will it continue to be taken?

b) For manual payments, does Santander Zero accept Faster Payments? From your experience, how many days does it take from your money leaving the account, to being credited to your credit card?

Thanks!

I had to wait about 20 mins on the phone to open an Abbey account - i hate to think what the wait is like for customer service

Best way to get the info is to go into a branch - then even if the information they provide you with is incorrect, you have a name and location to reference when claiming back any charges
  • paying the extra on top will not stop your direct debit.

Just so you know Abbey do not take debit card payments over the phone (seriously living in the dark ages)

I am not sure about the faster payment as with mine I just had a DD for the full amount but why not test it with a £1 and see how fast it gets there or if you get a faster payment receipt?
  • Considering I work for them, I will answer this question.

    1. It will not stop the DD but will lower the minimum payment required as obviously the balance is coming down.

2.Yes, we do accept faster payments. However it is only from accounts that send faster payments out of accounts. Those that do not will take the standard 3-5 working day timescale.

We have a relative who is abroad and will use the S. Zero card to take out money.

Usually, cash advances attract interest immediately (although from what I gather Santender will not make a charge for the actual withdrawal).

If the account is kept in credit - e.g. a £2000 positive balance/float, am I right in assuming that there will be no interest charges?

I've had various answers from the CSRs - I appreciate it's an odd query. It's just that I can't see how I'd be charge interest if I am not in debt. Also, IF Santander charge interest, how long would they charge it until (since there is no 'debt' to be repaid)? The card won't be used for any CC purchases.

    Thanks!

Most CC have a T&C that they can't be in credit. OK it can happen 'accidentally' as a result of a refund, but deliberately putting it in credit is frowned on. They may even return the credit by cheque or to your bank account.

So it's iffy as to whether it will work. If it does, no interest.

Next time you ring, ask them to take a look at condition 5.7 (which prohibits positive balances).

Darned providers think of everything don't they! ;)

Thanks guys - I've seen that section on the T+Cs but weren't sure about whether they enforced it (and have had so many answers!)

Edit: Right - now I need to spend the remaining £500 balance on something really quickly!

Well the question is how long will it take them to notice the credit balance and return it?

At statement time would be my guess but ICBW.
  • You are correct in what your saying, we will not charge interest if your in credit. However the other posters on this board are correct, it is against the terms of use of your card to deliberately "front load" it.
