  • Waitrose and John Lewis are pretty good employers. As are Harrods and Selfridges. Apply online for Selfridges but go into Harrods whichever concession u would want to work in and hand in a cv

i live in central London but studying near heathrow area. I'de love to work there, my lecturers reccomended me a place there, How did you get a job there? and what do you work as? Is there a way of applying online?

Just ring around all the shops. You can get their details on Heathrow's website and Heathrow might host a job seeker's site. They pay me more than the adult minimum wage and I get commission. I'm not at Heathrow so I can't put in a good word for you though!

If you apply for waiter / waitressing jobs these can prove to be financially lucrative in tips if you give good service. Try Pizza Hut /Express etc also you get free food thrown in too.

I worked in a cinema through uni. The pay wasn't amazing, but the shifts were flexible, you're working with people your own age, and you get FREE MOVIES!

To this day it was the best job I ever had.

Twickenham Rugby Stadium are employing waiters and bar tenders, lol, dunno what you call them. So, hopefully I would be gettting good tips, I worked at a takeaway for a few weeks once, got tips even though it wasnt the place for it.

On matchdays there are going to be thousands of people coming in andf out of the restuarant, hopefully they all give me £1 each!!!!

Thanks for the help and advice, it really helped.

I'd second that, not that I've worked in a cinema myself, but DS1 did / does - started during 6th form and does it during Uni holidays. Don't know what the multiplexes are like, but 'his' is a small local one, 3 screens, they seem to start the films in a half-hour period and then it goes quiet for at least an hour. So he got paid to do his homework! :rotfl:

You bring back memories (i'm now 40) but getting a job when i finished uni (and subsequent jobs) was absurdly difficult . Used to take months sending off CVS then going through rigouress selection procedures - some would take the whole day like British Aero space and the Civil service - i'd come away with a headache and put off from working there ! It's easier to become prime minister than get accepted for some jobs! THe reason is the popular employers have a huge no of CVs and even though my grades were lower than average they would still accept me for interview to see what my other qualities were . I never got the jobs i wanted, got graduate positions but not in the companies at the top of my list but eventually now work for myself . I wish the intenet was available then (just commodore pets - character based screens no soundcards or graphics!) as i would have started with websites earlier .
